Mark V Static Sound on Every note

Thanks everyone for your input. I now have case closed! I sent the amp in for warranty work to Mesa and they did an outstanding job. It turns out the static sound was caused by the footswitch cable going bad. As much as I hated to send my beloved amp in, I am glad I did. My amp sounds great...

Mark V Combo conversion to Head + 2x12 Cab Questions.

The Mark V is fantastic with the V30. I bought a combo that had a V30 pre-installed and love it. A few weeks ago I saw the John Petrucci play through of the Mark 5:25 and he said he records with a single V30 for a more focused sound. I have read most reputable speakers can handle double the...

Mark V Static Sound on Every note

2B- I have one thing that is loose, one of the power tube leads is broken off and I can't get it out. Maybe that is the culprit. Everything else, in my estimation, is secure.

Mark V Static Sound on Every note

I'll give it a try. Boss builds pedals like tanks and they are pretty reasonable used on Reverb and eBay. I hope that will work because I am not playing through the effects loop at all today.

Mark V Static Sound on Every note

Thanks for the tip, I will give it a try. Do you have a recommendation? (I stopped using pedals when I bought the MarkV)

Mark V Static Sound on Every note

2 Boogie, I think you described the sound really well. The recording is actually clear and the notes coming out of the amp sound like there is some recording distortion.

Here is the link to the recording. It may help to use headphones. The unwanted distortion of the signal didn't jump out at me. https://soundcloud.com/markv-8/markvscratchdistortion

Mark V Static Sound on Every note

2 Boogie, Thanks for the thought. This is definitely not a 60 cycle hum issue as the distortion/scratch sounds occur at the loudest part of the note and a little bit after. The sound is not continuous like I have experienced with hum in the past. I am baffled.

Mark V Static Sound on Every note

Thanks! I keep the action low and get a little rattle but this is different. I might just have to send my amp in (I hate parting with it).

Mark V Static Sound on Every note

Thanks all. I borrowed my neighbor's old Peavey Backstage 50 and played it through my speaker. No issues with the speaker, the notes rang clear. This and the other Mark V's I have played through confirm it is not fret buzz eithrr. The noise is not like the video Dr. B posted as the amp overall...

Mark V Static Sound on Every note

Dr. B, I have not tried connecting an external speaker cab. I will borrow one and post the results. Thanks for the suggestion!

Mark V Static Sound on Every note

Dr. B, Thanks for the reply! This happens on every setting, with every cable and every guitar. That's why I swapped out all of the preamp and powertubes and am having the same issue. I played through my buddy's Mark V and another at the guitar store and those did not have any of the scratching...

Mark V Static Sound on Every note

On my Mark V Combo I get a faint (albiet noticeable) static/scratch sound with every note I play. I just retubed (with the exception of the rectifier tube) and there is no difference. Why could this be happening?

Alnico Magnet Swap in a Humbucker

I was unhappy with the pickups on my guitar and decided to try a mag swap ($8 a LOT cheaper than the Lollar and Gibson pickups I want to upgrade to). The neck tone was uninspiring and the bridge had too many overtones (probably due to the guitar body being made of ziricote). In the neck I have...

Anyone else love Mark 1 mode?

Mark 1 is the hardest mode for me to get into. It easily nails the Santana tones which I am not really into. Other than that, I generally find it unusable. I have played it a lot through 45w mode on Variac and still don't love it. The tone is so fat it seems clumsy to me. Maybe single coils...

    II C+!!!!

Very cool. I recently rediscovered the Mark II C+ mode by cranking the power pubes all the way and bringing up the gain. Raunchy clipped fuzz tones (Jack White/Black Keys) burst from my speaker.

Im looking for a chorus pedal. Any recommendations?

I bought the Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail Delay and it has a beautiful and unique chorus effect when on it's shortest settings with no loss in volume. The delay sounds amazing too.
