    Budget Recording...

stay away from the line 6 stuff. it's just toys. the firebox is pretty nice.

I want to start home recording....never tried it.

I say get a 57, a presonus firebox and steal some cracked software off the web. cubase has my vote for windows and logic for mac. You'll be in only $300 and you'll ahve a pro sounding rig.

    Interface Recomendatons

Defintely give the RME fireface interfaces a look. I've had m-audio, presonus and a couple of motu's and the fireface blows them away in both features and audio quality. The mixer software allows you to do many things you can't with other boxes.

    Mic positioning

I've had good luck putting a 57 very close and a condenser 5 feet away. You can blend between them in mixing to get different amounts of room tone. Delaying either mic between 1 and 20 milliseconds will allow you to adjust the phasing between the mics letting you get even more tones.

    Best computer setup and components

RAM is what allows you to have plugins like synths and samplers open. HArd drive speed is what limits how many tracks you can run at once. Processor speed limits FX plugins. Check out tiger direct for their kits. There's an ASUS quad core kit now for $250. I have always had good luck with...

    Mark IV loud hum.

I believe a faulty power supply cap will let 60 cycle hum into the system. If it's old it might be worth doing a recap.

old or new boogies: witch iz betta'?

I definitely prefer my mark IV to the newer boogies. Definitely have one older than 15 years recapped. it'll bring it back to the original specs and likely sound much better.

How would you clean a dusty speaker?

I can't really see that any sort of dust you could just brush off would be enough to mess with the tone. I put the grill back on and forget it.

Help. Capacitor came off PCB inside Mark IV!

I should have added, don't mess with it unless you know how to discharge the power supply before you start. don't get zapped. and by zapped I mean killed.

Help. Capacitor came off PCB inside Mark IV!

Is the board itself damaged? If not you could just solder it back on, no problem. If the leads on the cap are damaged it's a simple matter of ordering one of the same value and soldering it in there.
