Getting More Bass From Mesa Quad Preamp

Heres a tip for more bass from Mesa Quad Preamp. The trick is middle knob pulled deep. This adds tuns of bass in combination with the Graphic EQ with the 80hz up near top line and the 240 in between half way and top line you should get mega Bass. I use a Mesa/Boogie Road Ready 4x12 with 2...

Loud Pop When Standby Switched on Stereo Simul-Class 2:90

Well you know whats first on Troubleshoot list Tubes. Some power tubes tend to pop when standby switched on. I installed Matched 4 new TAD 6L6 in my Stereo 2:90 and a loud pop, and I see the purple gas flash with the rush of high voltage. I install a Matched set of JJ 6L6 and the pop is reduced...

    Mesa Boogie Strategy 500

Holy cow thats a big tank just for one channel, Its sounds like overkill to me. One channel op you must keep the level on the not in use ch @ 0.00 and the presence @ full 10. Or can you switch 1 channel on and leave 1 off the manuals are on google. Reliability that depends on how old your...

295 Power Amp Tube Questions - All 6L6's?

Ok I might be a few months late but. The 6CA7 is EL34, its a better variant, if you find a Sylvania fat bottle with dual halo getters on top thats the old STR 416 used it the 80's boogie's. And enough of the old "these guys just rebrand tubes" look up all the stuff on tube manufactures. Tubes...

    Recap Facts and Fiction

Oh right forgot about ESR. I do have an old B&K esr meter but the curve tracer is similar in that it uses a 60Hz AC sine sweep and esr testers use high frequency around 100khz. As the curve trace gives you a quick pick of a section of a circuit or a single component. You can see resistance on a...

    Recap Facts and Fiction

There seams to be some confusion on if or when to recap your older Boogie's. First off I am only talking about the power supply filter electrolytic caps. Lets start with my first MK3 I got it about 4 years ago, it had sum hum, so it was do for a check up. I have 3 or 4 ways of checking caps...

    Tremoverb LDR dating "problem" era

Boogie uses LDR's because they don't make pop sound like relays. That's the only advantage. Hex buffer electronic switching is one of my faves used in the evil empire carvin X100b s and other modern amps.

Are my caps still good? Pictures

Most electrolytic capps start to fail after ten years, and should be checked using a good cap tester. You have to discharge and disconnect one leg. Of coarse I m an EE Engineer and would not recommend for the untrained. I recently got a MK3 Red stripe 100w with all options. I checked all the big...

    TUBE FALURE SHIPING or RIPPING

Pin3= Plate Pin2=Heater Pin7=Heater. I measured from pin 3 to pin2 & found similar results on pin 7 to pin3 . I also use a amp moded just to test tubes and this tube started internal arking in standby mode. These are symptoms of blown tube from old age long hours or high voltage abuse.

    TUBE FALURE SHIPING or RIPPING

I won a pair of Mesa 6CA7/EL34 STR416 ,claimed to be NOS NIB . But when I tested them one tube was perfect 39mA @ 444VDC, the other tube was shorted from plate to heater. On my Fluke DMM plate to heater reads 160k to 190K. My question could this happen in shiping ? It was shiped 4000 miles from...

Anyone ever compare a JCM 800 2203 and a Mark IV?

In later years THE WHO did use Boogie's. On who are you and the later tours he switched from Highwatt to the triple Boogie stack. As far as the Plexie thing it's hard to keep a plexi sounding like a plexi . If you need the VanHalen sound first you need NOS 6Ca7 Fat Boy's, then the VanHalen...
