WOOHOO! Got me a Blue Angel!

What did you do to get rid of the fizz? If you don't get too gainy, it doesn't get that fizzy, but if you're dimin it and not getting fizz, what's your secret? As for headroom, I swear I get more from my Champ 12 (10.5 watts). I think it's just the right amount, but still find it to seem like a...

FS Blue Suede Road King V1 combo

Custom Blue Suede combo 4 channels, configurable - per channel power amp, uses different combinations of up to 46L6s and 2 EL34s, can use the EL34s in triode mode for down to 30 watts, or all 6 tubes for up to 120 watts, you can get your clean channel set at 120 watts, and set a gainier...

Mythbuster? Power tubes have little effect on tone

Without additional devices, you can't push the amp harder than I did. On the channel 2 clip, all the knobs were full up except the bass. Ch 3 and 4 were as loud if not louder, and the master volumes were maxxed out. That's as driven as it gets, really. Maybe there would be more niticeable...

Mythbuster? Power tubes have little effect on tone

If that were true, you could record a clip with that setting you came up with as "optimized for 6L6s" then flip the knob to EL34s, and according to your statement, it would sound significantly different. If you turn the knobs after switching tubes, you're just proving how much effect the EQ or...

Mythbuster? Power tubes have little effect on tone

I wish I could have heard that. I've heard differences after a biasing, after tube changes (same brand, and different brand), and while there are subtle differences, I'd never say they sounded like totally different amps. I don't dispute that it's possible, just hasn't been my experience. Even...

    Blue Angel 6V6 side comparison

Definitely closer to tweed, and more so when overdriven if you're using speakers more consistent with tweeds. With the right speaker, you can get sounds closer to that of the 18 watt marshalls, but typically with a lot thicker mid range. But it still sounds like the Blue Angel and nothing else...

Mythbuster? Power tubes have little effect on tone

I have to disagree. It may be dramatic in some amps (I have not heard any) but those amps I used to make the clips are full tilt, and the differences are very slight even using the original uncompressed files and listening through my studio monitors (only Mackies, but they're accurate enough)...

Mythbuster? Power tubes have little effect on tone

I'll take your silence to mean myth confirmed

Mythbuster? Power tubes have little effect on tone

I find this statement to be ridiculous. There are plenty of musicians (and I use the term loosely) who can't tell the difference between tubes and modelers, and plenty who don't even care.

6L6 vrs EL34 any tone difference?????

You're one of the first to speak respectfully. Thanks for that. But you're way off base to talk about all the variables there supposedly are with the clips I've posted. When each clip was reamped (same performance), the amp didn't move, the mic didn't move, no other knob than the one that...

6L6 vrs EL34 any tone difference?????

How do you not get that if I change the channel strip (GTMBV) tone controls and play then change the 6L6s to EL34s and play, the amp will sound the same, thus proving that there isn't a significant contribution made by the tubes?

So. Is a Blue Angel "Pure Class A"

    There's no rectifier selector switch.

Didn't listen to the clips, did you? ;)

"Better" clean sounds. 34s or 84s?

Two bits of advice. The output tubes alone have little (not nothing) to do with the final tone. Let YOUR ears deide what kind of clean tone you want. You may be surprised in what amp you find it. If you have a chance, go out to some local shops and play some amps. Turn em up. Check out...

6L6 vrs EL34 any tone difference?????

Stop kidding yourselves! Crank up any channel with 2 6L6s then turn the knob to 2 EL34s. Not exactly night and day. I have clips of each channel on my soundclick http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=420709 where I did just that. They were all recorded very loud. In fact...

So. Is a Blue Angel "Pure Class A"

    I'm pretty sure I've heard 2x6V6 - Tube recto 4xEL84 - tube, Simul-link - SS rectifier. => dual rectifier. I love mine, too.

    Gearwire Road King Demo'd

Roadmaster. Where do they find these guys? I didn't see a triode switch, so I'd say V2, but it definitely was a RK. It had the Progressive linkage and 6 output tubes.

Which Boogie product is Class A and 50 Watts?

My Blue Angel says "PURE CLASS A POWER" on the front, and it's still not class "A." I don't know myself whether the Mark IV is really operating class A or getting 50 watts in that mode, or both, but it wouldn't be the first time something was, um, mislabeled. More at...
