Re: Tonal secret to the LSS: KILL THE MIDS!

I don't get it... my main guitar is a 335 with 2 humbuckers, not that far off from an LP in terms of appropriate amp settings, and I can hardly get a bad sound from Ch 2. Have you tried Gain and Treble both at 1-2:00, Mids way down, Bass and Presence just under halfway, Volume and Master at noon? In...

A 4-button foot switch that does IT ALL?

I'm wondering if there's a switch (Mesa or not) that will control ALL controllable things about a Lonestar: - Channel Switching - Boost - Reverb - Drive (yes, I did the Drive mod) I realize that there will probably be indicator light issues, etc, but I'd love to get it all down to one compact switch.

Four (4) Lonestar series Geek-out Questions

Geeks only! Anybody around here know... (1.) What exactly is happening to the circuit when you change the reverb switch between 'warm' and 'bright'? Is it filtering what goes to the reverb or the reverb itself? Etc. (2.) What exactly is happening with the 'Thick' and 'Thicker' settings? I can tell i...

Tonal secret to the LSS: KILL THE MIDS!

I posted this in another thread, but I thought I'd give it its own thread since I've found it so beneficial as an LSS owner: "Well, 3 years in and loving it more than ever, my experience is this: TURN THE MIDS OFF. Yup, all the way down. Mids at zero. Your settings will look stupid, and your friends...

Re: LSS 1 yr. Tonal heaven not obtained

Well, 3 years in and loving it more than ever, my experience is this: TURN THE MIDS OFF. Yup, all the way down. Mids at zero. Your settings will look stupid, and your friends will scoff. 'But what will happen to the midrange, which is where electric guitar lives?' The answer is... nothing. Your mids...

Reverb disappears when you switch channels - mod for this?

Anybody else irritated by the way the reverb drops out when you switch between channels or engage the Drive control? I assume this has something to do with having a reverb level control for each channel, but I would gladly sacrifice that feature to have a smooth transition when I switch. Is it possi...

Re: ft switchable drive?

It's a great mod. The only issue is that the reverb disappears for a few seconds when you engage the drive, just like when you switch channels. At this point, that's the only glaring flaw in this amp's design.

Re: Anyone use a Sparkle Drive with their LSS?

I use the T-Rex Møller, which does the same thing as the Sparkle Drive (TS-type gain but with a clean blend control). Here's the thing - it really shines better on the Clean channel. If you set Channel 1 to a really clean sound, the Sparkle Drive/Møller can give you an unbelievably addictive, 'clean...

Re: ft switchable drive?

I had the mod done at the Mesa store in Hollywood. I never got the details about what he did - all I know is that now the 'slave' jack on the back is set up for a standard footswitch for the Drive control (you can call and ask him if you like). One less dirt pedal to worry about...

Sorry for the delay. To be honest, I don't know what they did exactly. I haven't had time to open it up and take pictures, etc....

I had Mesa Hollywood mod my LSS

The 'Drive' control on channel 2 is now foot-switchable! Now I don't need an overdrive pedal........

Believe it or not, I'm using both a G System and an M13. I've been watching the G for awhile, and the only thing I don't like about it is that there's no way to put the Mod and Delay blocks before the amp. I like that gritty 'delay before distortion' sound that you hear the Edge and others do someti...
