Re: Mono vs. Stereo

I love playing in stereo! I have an old Rivera S120 stereo combo amp that sounds incredible. I use an Axe FX XL with it, but for FX only. I sing and play in a 3 piece, so every little bit of extra sound helps a lot. A good, cheap option would be to find an old Simil Satellite to use on the other sid...

Re: Mod Kits for Mesa Amps????

Sorry guys!
This project had to take a back seat for a little while.......
I will be restarting the website and the mod kits next year though.

Sometimes life gets in the way of the fun stuff for me......

Re: Heartbreaker: Love vs Lust (Highest gain?)

Put some EL34's in the amp
Set to Tweed voltage, Curvaceous, 100 watts
Crank it!

I've got 6V6's in mine right now, but I think this amp really needs EL's to sound it's best.

Re: Channel switching relay

There may be a Mesa tech in your area. The V's board is really tight! I've worked on Mesa amps for a lot of years. I wanted to mod my V slightly and wound up burning a Molex connector for one of the ribbon cables. I need a smaller diameter iron before I try that again! You might try looking for a Me...

Re: Mark V Channel Switching via Fractal (FX8)

Axe FX cannot change channels on the amp. It has no relays and cannot send midi PC messages. On the FX8...... I used the FX8 with my V for a little while. I'll probably start again this afternoon. I removed all FX from the amp because I wanted to see if I really liked the amp and wanted to hear what...

Re: New Tubes for the V!

Not sure about the getters. I can check them out later today. I used the V at practice yesterday. Just couldn't bond with it at all! I really liked some of the sounds I got before we started playing, but once the drums and bass kicked in, I couldn't stand it. We played for about an hour, I tried lot...

Re: Mesa Heartbreaker Combo issue - no volume

Not sure if you got this fixed, but it definitely sounds like it could be a tube issue.
PM me if you need some help!

New Tubes for the V!

I'm always amazed at what a difference new tubes make. I just slapped a new set of tubes in my Mark V. I've been on the fence about this amp since I got it, but now I'm starting to see what the fuss is about. I did not use a 12AT7 in V4 or V6. I've never liked what they do to my tone. I did buy a JA...

Re: Mark V combo - Humbuckers vs. Single Coils

I haven't tried the YJM's yet. I do really like the Areas so far though!

I just got my old Custom 24 back. It definitely sounds better with the Roadster.
I got a full set of new tubes for the V, we'll see after that........

Re: Mark V combo - Humbuckers vs. Single Coils

 I just got my old 1992 Custom 24 back from a friend. I sold it to him for $2,000 years ago when we bought our house (needed to raise the down payment....). He just sold it back to me for $1,400 because he needs to raise enough money for a down payment..... This guitar sounds really good wi...

Re: Mark V combo - Humbuckers vs. Single Coils

I haven't played a guitar with singles in a long time. Lately I've been really getting into Strat music though and thought I would give the Areas a try. Really nice pickups so far! I think my V combo really likes singles much more than humbuckers. Again, I'm not looking for Metallica or Dream Theate...

Mark V combo - Humbuckers vs. Single Coils

So..... I've been in the process of rewiring one of my Strats for a week or two. Other, more important stuff just keeps coming up. The Strat has DiMarzios (approximations of single coils, but no noise at all) - Area 61 in the neck - Area 58 in the middle - Virtual Solo in the bridge I finally finish...

Re: Anyone use Channel 3 for low to medium gain?

I stand corrected. It was V4 that I tried the 12AT7 in.
I didn't try vV6 because I didn't want to mess with channels 1 & 2.

I need to order some less noisy AT7's and give it another shot.

Re: Anyone use Channel 3 for low to medium gain?

I'll try Extreme mode! So far, I've only tried this on the Mk IV setting. Channel 3 does have enough gain and sustain for me with high gain settings, but it's way too brittle and bright sounding for me. Channel 2 sounds way better to my ears for high gain. Much fuller and richer. I tried the 12AT7 t...

Anyone use Channel 3 for low to medium gain?

I just can't get a high gain sound that I like from Channel 3 on my Mark V. I've tried numerous settings and the 12AT7 trick in V3. I love channels 1 & 2 though! Is anyone else using channel 3 for low to mid gain sounds? Here are the settings that I came up with this morning. I like this sound so fa...
