I have a RKII, in which V3 is the cathode follower position. I tried putting a Tung sol in this position, and it was destroyed. I then put a Mesa Russian II in this position, and... It was destroyed.

Because I never learn my lesson, I am currently trying to use a RCA in this position.

Just to clear things up. I'm the guy who first started this post almost 2 years ago. I'm still running my RK1 in that configuration. I've run it in bold and spongy and had no problems. I did not need to modify my chassis to fit the yellowjackets and el84's. They slip right in. What tubes do you use...

I have listened to this album about 10 times and I love it.. Just yesterday I looked on youtube at the Guitar hero versions. Even though I love the album, it makes me sad that Rubin made these changes. One of the worst parts of the CD, the drums being so in front with a wet loud "thomp" is absent on...

Sorry for bringing up this old post, but it is a point I thought should be revisited. When I first got the road king, the guitar center people told me to set the 6L6 tubes as GRN-RED-RED-GRN. I did this, and the bass was quite loose, I just attributed it to the new cabinets or just how the road king...

I switched back to the Mesa chinese tube, no problems. It seems to be able to withstand the voltage or whatever of V3.

I am a dumbass: V3 kills my tubes.

I was f%&# around, trying all kinds of combinations when I lost the volume of CHI and CHII, I found the problem was V3: Which I had just inserted a Mesa Russian tube into. I replaced it out, and it was just fine. I tried to use this tube in other locations, but it deadens what ever it is suppose to power. I thought, hey just a bad tube right?

So then I try a new Tung-sol in V3, hoping to get more variation to my sound, and guess what? CHI and CHII hardly had any sound, CHIII and CHIV had the normal volume, but less distortion. Again, Changed he V3 out, and back to normal. And again, I tried the Tung sol in V1 (which had worked with no problem before) and the tube does nothing. Second tube killed in under 30 minutes.
