Ditch the tubes that are in it, and buy either some new Mesa tubes, Groove Tubes in the range 4-6 or tubes from a reputable supplier that will supply tubes within Mesa specs. Why do people spend loads of money on equipment and try to save a few pennies on tubes ?? Crazy. :?

Mesa 12ax7's are tested for gain, so both triodes should be pretty similar in output. I have a 'balanced' EH 12ax7 in v5 and ............I can't tell any difference !! As long as the tube's triodes are similar in output I don't think it really matters that they are matched perfectly.

Listen to that, and tell me the Stiletto can't get as heavy / heavier than the mark IV....I've owned the Mark IV, and now own the Stiletto. My opinion...the Mark IV does A LOT of tones, but only does them well. The stiletto does just as many tones, and does them better. Not to mention it's simpler ...

Get a sextet of KT66's is the safest (and more expensive) option, but not as expensive as damaging your amp !!

In the manual it says you can pull the INNER pair and any one of the rectifier tubes in the Dual Rectifier, it mentions nothing about impedance or doing it to a Triple. If you don't have it in writing from Mesa don't do it is my advice. They should really have a FAQ section on their web site to clea...

It's a tiny pic but it looks like a Chinese 12ax7 to me. Whatever tubes you get make sure they're tested for gain and noise, V1 in particular should be high gain and low noise, the phase inverter should have balanced triodes too ideally.

Your preamp tubes will be fine for a good while yet, and so will the power tubes if you've treated them properly (about half way through their usable life I would guess). What are in it at the mo ? STR440's ? What preamp tubes Russian 1's ,2's ?? The colours make very little difference to the tone, ...

All this speculation makes me laugh, the new model is always expected to be 'better'. (think 2 vs 3 channel Rectifiers etc) I fear the MKIV is the last of it's kind, the MKV will be a MK in name only. Let's see how long they make it for too. I used to play Marshalls for years, bought every new model...

You can only do this with the Dual not the Triple !!! I can't really see the point of pulling tubes, it makes very little difference to the volume anyway ?? Completely wrong....you CAN do this with a Triple. Mesa told me this directly and that it is perfectly safe. They described it in a scenerio t...

Too much gain on a tube amp will actually make it more difficult as it will compress the signal. You need to find the right balance between gain, pre amp and power amp levels especially at lower volumes. As you turn up louder use less bass and less gain. In my experience Boogies sound better with th...

The easy answer is to use Vintage mode for leads and Modern for rhythm. It's much nicer and has a better 'feel'. Output high, master lower, gain about 12 o'clock not too much bass and hardly any presence. Sings like a bird. 8) This is with std tubes and works with all the guitars I own.

As long as they're in spec for use in a Boogie amp, they should be fine. They sound quite different to 6L6's, some like 'em, some don't. There's only one way to find out !!

Neither! I'd get a medium head if at all possible :D , but the head is the way to go. 1. Get a really good quality speaker cable like Planet Waves or such like and you'll be fine. Don't use a guitar lead !! 2. Should be ok unless you play really loud and use a boost, the MKIV is rated at 85 watts bu...

The wide body also has a mains light on the front, a different handle and more room to store the footswitch lead inside !! :D
