Here's another question.. will I lose bass response by running a 4x12 at bedroom volumes versus a 2x12? I cannot crank the cab when playing at home like I could playing out obviously.. but I don't want it to sound worse than the 2x12 at bedroom. The answer is the Recto Standard 4x12, sounds really ...

They're only 100 watts, so with a MKIV at full power and high volume they will struggle, they tend to get harsh if you push them too much.

If you put it back in straight away it should be ok. It makes no difference if you're playing or not, but it would be ok if it happened while in standby.

Unless they are a matched quad, which you can't tell, the pairs should be installed :

You should have replaced the power tubes first, they're probably nearly dead anyway ! :D

Yes the price is the same for ones within Mesa specs but be aware that the prices on their web site don't include tax (vat) = +17.5 % or postage. I'd suggest you email for a quote of an all in delivered price ! :D

They MAY have problems in high gain amps being long plates, but they're probably in reality not much different to any of the other New Sensor 12ax7's like the Tung Sol reissue, ElectroHarmonix, Sovtek etc. They are Mullard's in name only, but are still a decent tube.

I bought my STR454's a couple of years ago, I don't think you'll find any Mesa ones for sale now. However Watford Valves in the UK will supply winged =C= tubes rated for use in Mesa amps as long as that is what you ask for :D

I have a pair of Mesa STR454's and they are probably the best new 6L6's. They should not be confused with the current production Svetlanas as they are made by Sovtek and aren't the same thing. Look out for SED or the winged C logo, then they're the real McCoy !! :D

My Single Rec is MUCH louder than my bandmate's TSL60 even in Vintage mode. What speaker cab are you using ? Have you tried his guitar through your rig ??

'As with all Mesa cabinetry...are constructed of 14 ply Marine Grade, Void Free Birch'
Straight from the 2007 catalogue. :D
The internals are different on the newer cabs to save weight, but the actual enclosure itself is and always has been as above.

The only Groove Tubes you can use are ones with a rating of 4,5 or 6. If you use these you can plug them straight in and not worry. :D
