Re: Got a TA 15. What speaker?

Congrats, DTR! Welcome to the club. I have spent most of my TA15 time with a Celestion Gold, which is honestly difficult to beat if you want cut and sparkle from just about any amp. I have one in my LSS 1x12 combo, and another one in my Lone Star 19" 1x12 cab. That 1x12 cab is an interesting item be...

Re: Effects loop vs direct input

The answer is always: do what sounds best to you. There's really only one rule: distortion, overdrive, and compression pedals pretty much have to go in front of the amp. They don't do well in effects loops. The only semi-quantifiable advantage to using the loop is if you want to use time-based effec...

Re: NAD: TransAtlantic 15

Still loving it. The honeymoon is winding down, since the acquisition of this amp largely illustrated for me that I now have a bunch of really cool amps... the TA15 being one more. It's unique among them, having no other viable Voxy amp, so it has been really fun getting to know it. So I'm going to ...

Re: Transatlantic with Celestion Gold speaker?

A 40 watt amp should be fine with a 50 watt speaker. Mesa sold the 90 watt Electradyne 1x12 combo with a 90 watt speaker. When in doubt email Celestion. I have had good luck with their customer service. I have been running a 50 watt Stiletto Ace through 2-25 watt greenbacks for 5 years hard without...

Re: NAD: TransAtlantic 15

Hey D, I have an Arena that lives in the loop of my Mini Rec. I like verb, especially on my cleans. Just wondering if you've tried any verb out front on the TA. Yes, I've used my HoF in front of my TA15 and it sounds great. I've even used it with the amp running pretty hairy settings and it sounds ...

Re: NAD: TransAtlantic 15

Just an update, I took my TA15 to a jam tonight, along with my Mini Rec as a backup. Didn't need to pull out the Mini. The TA15 handled beautifully. I mostly used the Tweed setting with my Direct Drive SS, and Ch1 by itself on a couple of songs and with a varying amount of volume (gain -- MV engaged...

Re: NAD: TransAtlantic 15

Any updates? I'm even more interested after what you said about the 5 watt mode, because that's kind of what I wanted from the lower watt mode. More and more interested in this. Plus, the guy still has the used one I found on Craigs List You should go try it out. I think you'll know right away. Her...

Re: NAD: TransAtlantic 15

The 5 watt settings warm the tone up considerably, and the amp overall becomes more forgiving and compressed. A lot of the attack is gone, so I couldn't see using it in a live setting at all. But it's great for at home and recording with it could be a lot of fun.

Re: Have a Mini Rec. Do I need a TA 15?

...DTR, I think I am going to amend my earlier statement -- I don't really see myself keeping the Tweaker at this point. I am not in a hurry to get rid of it, but after some extensive fiddling with the TA15, I've come to the conclusion that with the amps I have in rotation (LSC, LSS, MiniRec and TA1...

Re: NAD: TransAtlantic 15

...ok, I know I'm just kicking my own thread along, but I just found a pretty awesome pair of settings. Ironically, now I'm going with Ch1 on the NORMAL voicing, volume, treble and bass all at about 1:00, and Ch2 on the H1 setting, gain at 2:00, treble at 10:00, and bass at 2:00. Volume and power se...

Re: LSS Black Shadow Speaker

Opinions about the C90 are all over the place, lots of people hate them, maybe love them. I find that they sound pretty good if they're in a decent sized cab. My main beef with them is that, to my ears, they are flat in certain frequencies, especially with harmonic overtones that a brighter speaker ...

And the 5 watt Tweed comments... hmmm. Play this thing for a while. I found one used locally for $550. I can plunk that down, just need to sell a couple things to justify it for the wife. :D
Do it DTR!
