Re: Whats your favorite pedal with the Lonestar?

Goudie FX 808+ pedal, which is a modified TS808/SD-9 with an expanded bottom end. My Strat sounds like magic thru it.

Re: Lone Star Classic and 6v6's

I'm confused by which THD YJs to buy. The following page lists several types:

http://thetubestore.com/thdproducts.html

Some are what they call "Cathod Bias" and others are labeled as "Power Reducing"

Re: Consequences of Bias Switch Misconfiguration

YES I lucked out because I was running the 6l6's with the EL34 setting, NOT the other way around!

Now, my question is: Did this kill the tube?

Consequences of Bias Switch Misconfiguration

I swapped out the EL34's that I had in my LSC with 6L6's and forgot to switch the bias switch. I only ran the amp a couple of hours. I was noticing the tone was weak and that's when I discovered the problem. But I also noticed that the 6L6 nearest the Rectifier tube was running totally cold and had ...

Re: Is it worth it to trade my older LSC for the new one?

I already use a boost pedal and it sounds great. But from what I understand, the legendary SRV blues tones were found when cranking tube amps, even with boost pedals in front of them. I'm also considering the option of keeping my older LSC and simply going the THD YJ route. Any thoughts on that opti...

THD Yellow Jackets with LSC

I'm thinking about buying THD Yellow Jackets for my Lone Star Classic but have questions. If I understand correctly, one can run EL84s or 6V6s with the YJs. If I ran EL84's, would I have to switch the bias switch on the LSC to EL34? And if I ran 6V6's, would it be switched to the 6L6 setting? I've o...

Re: Is it worth it to trade my older LSC for the new one?

Do none of you find the 10 watt feature ideal for getting power tube saturation without having to blast the amp? This would seem to be ideal for smaller gigs, practicing, and for home recording. Although, I wonder how much power tube saturation is overrated. I once tried out a THD Hotplate, and didn...

Is it worth it to trade my older LSC for the new one?

I'm curious.... Do you guys think it worth it to trade my older LSC for the newer version to get the 15 watt power mode setting? I'm thinking that I'd use the 15 watts for power tube saturation when recording and maybe even with gigs. When I gig, even though I play bigger venues, I can't get the amp...

Rebiasing necessary for Lonestar power tube replacement?

Is rebiasing necessary if I want to replace my power tubes?

If so, how would I do this?

I tried a Hot plate out

I tried a Hot plate out recently with my LSC and was surprised to NOT hear the improvement. In fact, I took it out to a gig and thought my tone was more muffled in the highs with it. I had the bright switch engaged.... I'm not impressed with it. In the bedroom, I might not hear the muffling, but it ...

Groove Tube Rating System Can Produce Power Tube Saturation?

I noticed that Groove Tubes have a rating system where the lower the number, the sooner the power tube distorts. So, if the power tube is rated 1-3, it distorts very early. Does this mean that I could get the coveted power tube saturation at low volumes without having to crank the amp or get an atte...

Well guys. I've been testing out the Hotplate with my Lone star classic, and I honestly don't hear an improvement.

It sounds a little different, but not necessariy better.

I'm surprised because I've always read about power tube distortion....

I may post the audios of my tests to prove this finding.

Which master setting adjustment when using an attenuator?

I'm going to be trying out an attenuator and am curious what is recommended: When using an effects loop, will I get power tube saturation no matter if I do either of the following? 1. Boost the Output knob and keep the Master on the channel down 2. Boost the Master on the channel and keep the Output...

Tweed Setting on LSC

My LSC is the one prior to their release of the multi-watt 10 w setting (it only has 50 and 100w settings). I'm into more of the blues types of sounds and have read that a lot of that tone is in power tube saturation. But my LSC is soooo loud that I can't get the master volume up past 9:00-10:00. Or...

I use similar settings to what Charles is describing, however I use an external overdrive pedal. The best one that I have found in front of this amp is the Seymour Duncan Twin Classic Tube pedal. My only problem with the amp is that I can't get my master volume up past 10:00 for even most gigs, set ...
