Re: Shipping a Cab

Thank you very much for your lengthy reply, it is so very appreciated! I will certainly take your advice..does UPS charge a substantial fee to have them package the materials for you? Absolutely DO NOT take an item to a UPS Store to have them package it and ship it, unless you like paying 3X what i...

Re: Triple Rectifier 2 channels

What is the blue part under the fuse holder in the picture?

Damn, man. That board is cooked. :(

I'd say the big blue filter caps are probably the source of the hum. If the board is melted like that, then I'd say the caps took a hit also, and probably aren't doing their job correctly.

Re: Triple Rectifier 2 channels

I see. My apologies.

The way this thread is laid out, it looks like you're trying to find the source of hum, removing parts, and then melted the circuit board.

I don't see how that amp ever worked. The entire power section of the board is fried, and that transformer has been hacked into place.

Re: Triple Rectifier 2 channels

I'm no tech, but that sh!t doesn't look right... Yeah, the melted part of the power supply board is what tipped me off. :? This is a perfect example of why you shouldn't go messing with you amp unless you know exactly what you're doing. Since it's obvious that you have now fried the amp, I suggest ...

Re: botched loop mod

Which version of the mod did you do? The one where the J175 transistors are removed and jumpers installed, or this one?

Might be a shot in the dark, but have you swapped out V4?

Have you tried swapping preamp tubes? Sounds like one is on it's way out.

Re: botched loop mod

I did the same thing to my Dual while trying to mod it. Broke the foil trace replacing a LDR. I ended up using a piece of a resistor leg and soldering it across the break.

Re: Dual vs Triple

For what its' worth, they have the same preamp layout, but the power amp is just 2 power tubes different. Some like the added girth, some think it's overkill.

Personally, they sound the same. It all comes down to what you need.

Re: Loss of Low End

It's a type of switch, basically. I'm not even sure the Single Recs use them. Chances of them dying from a hit should be pretty slim though.

I'd start with the input jack and cable.

Have you tried a different instrument cable by any chance?

Re: Loss of Low End

Could be a bad LDR. Honestly, it sounds like a problem with the input...could be the jack or the cable connecting it to the board.

I'd suggest taking it to a tech in your area.

Re: 1997 Dual Rectifier with Schumacher transformers?

Thanks, fellas. I was reading this page: http://oxyde.clan.free.fr/dualrectifier.htm ...and it made it sound like not all came with Schumacher transformers. Also, it mentions how revision G (which I'm guessing mine has to be) should have 16/8/4 speaker jacks, yet mine has 8-16/8-16/4/4 jacks. Yeah,...

He has a history of not fulfilling his end of the deal. Some people haven't had any issues with him, but I've heard more that have.

ive only been on this board for a few months, but this place seems much nicer in general than just about any other site ive seen (namely, youtube and harmony central). For the most part, this forum is one of the most helpful and laid-back forums I've belonged to. There are a few asshats that like t...
