Re: Dual Rectifier problem, strange problem

I'd spray the jacks with tuner cleaner and insert/remove the plugs 30 or 40 times.

Re: Road King I - Spring Reverb Issue

I have a newer Road King but there is far more reverb than I would ever want to use on all of the channels. I can't imagine there was a huge change in the amount of reverb available between the revisions.

Re: 2016 Gibson Les Paul Studio T

I've recently purchased a 2016 Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded like your inquiring about and I can say it's a good deal for a lower end Gibson. I was able to get mine for around $700 and taxes after doing a little negotiating, along with a used Gibson HSC for mere pennies. I will say I'm not fond of t...

Re: Road King Feedback

The Corsair comes with Duncan Designed pickups, similar to a '59, if my memory serves. Those are generally pretty functional pickups, as are the Burstbuckers. Hotter output pickups like a Custom work pretty well for heavier stuff, but you lose some of the articulation with the higher output. It's ra...

Re: Road King Feedback

I thought the aftermarket BBs weren't potted but the ones installed in guitars at the factory were potted.

As for channel 4, that doesn't sound right at all. Channel 4 has way more presence sweep than any other channel.

Re: Mesa Noob

I hate to be "that guy" and give a suggestion outside your preferences, but you should be able to pick up a used Rectifier head and non-mesa cabinet within your budget. A lot of that music is going to sound better (and have more punch) with a closed back cabinet anyway.

I always ran my Roadster, and now Road King, heads through cabs with Greenbacks and it really helps get that type of tone.

Re: Mark V25 head or Roadking V1 head

I love the Road King and have played classic rock right up through newer stuff, though no metal. When paired with lower output (and especially single coil) pickups, they sound fantastic for that stuff. My only complaint is that I can't have Tweed, Brit and a clean channel.

Re: Best Recto Tubes STR 425

I have not tried the STR 420 but it appears there was more than one version of it... one had the old style shouldered glass possibly of Chinese origin... and another with small cylindrical glass and getter flash near the base, maybe Russian. I think the ones I had were the old style, not positive t...

Re: OD vs. distortion pedal advice

Thanks for the advice guys! Right now I'm sampling a Blues Driver on the clean channel but I might try out a TS-9 to get a setting that can gently overdrive both the orange and red channel on this amp to get 4 channels of goodness. I used to do that, then I got a Roadster, then I got a Road King. I...

Re: Matching Pickups To A Recto

For the most part I'm pretty happy with the Burstbuckers in my Gibsons (BB1, BB2, BB3, BBpro) but I put a Duncan Custom in my Explorer for heavier tones and it sounds fantastic. I have a Shechter with a JB and I just don't like the way that sounds nearly as much. The Custom isn't quite as hot and ha...

Re: OD vs. distortion pedal advice

I would think about setting the amp up for your mid gain tone and using a pedal to get you into the more distorted tone. That way, you can stack them and don't have to tap dance to turn one thing off and another thing on at the same time.

Re: Dual Reborn vs Roadster

Tweed works really well for a lot of moderately pushed plexi tones. Using a boost in front will give you all kinds of tonal options with it as well. Honestly, I wish I could have two or three channels with the Tweed setting as an option.
