Re: The most British sounding of them all - Which Mesa?

I would go with a Stiletto. The guy isn't a great player, but he gets pretty close to all of those tones in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLkA78GQ3hI This guy showcases the distorted tones a lot better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoHZw5Gd_EY If I needed those types of tones more of...

Re: Replacing Power Tubes in a solo 150w head

As long as they are replaced in pairs (2,4,6) you shouldn't have any issues. If you buy Mesa tubes in the same color code, you don't even really have to worry about keeping them paired. I have never tried mixing color codes on Mesa amps, but even their most extreme mismatch is still closer than the...

Re: Pre-Amp / Power amp Tube Set for Dual Rectifier

Sorry, I was on vacation.

The EH sounds thicker and has more low end. The Tung Sol has more top end and is smoother. I play a lot of 90s rock and no metal, so the EH fits my needs a lot better.

Re: Pre-Amp / Power amp Tube Set for Dual Rectifier

I loved the old STR-420s and wish I could find something that sounds as good as they did. So far my favorite V1 tube is an EH 12AX7, though most people prefer the Tung Sol

Re: Rectoverb 50 Combo Fizzy Distortion

As others have mentioned, pulling back on the treble (to noon or below) and using the presence to add the top end can help a lot with the modern setting. It really helps to get the amp up to a level where the amp really opens up and the girth really comes out. It's well above bedroom levels, but bel...

Re: New Mesa amp: Fillmore 25!

Got a chance to play one the other day and it was a nice amp. I could see myself using one for my original stuff, but I need more channels for my cover gigs.

Re: Dual Recto w/ EL34s

As mentioned EL34s sound great under higher gain, less so as the gain comes down. I can get my Road King bright enough with 6L6s and almost never use the EL34s at all.

Re: Single Rectifier vs. Rect O Verb vs. Dual / Triple

Not sure if this will get any responses. But recently I played a rectoverb through a Marshall 1960 lead cab. It sounded remarkably different than the single rectifier I had earlier this year. Single rectifier was very bright and brash and honestly didn't sound very good. But the rectoverb sounds al...

I have a series 1 single recto that is my backup. Great amp, love its simplicity and ability to do mid gain stuff.

I like the idea, I just want two channels with the "tweed" setting from my Road King

I've had great luck with the MXR Bass DI+. It sounds better into the board than a lot of amps that I've tried.

Re: One 4x12 or two 2x12?

Oversized cabs tend to make the low end loose, regardless of manufacturer, in my experience.

Re: RK2 Slave Out

By using the slave out, you will get more of the Mesa character coming out of your wet amp. Unless you are intentionally trying to get a different character (in addition to the effects) out of the wet amp, I don't see an issue. Only you can decide if the additional coloration from the wet amps is go...

That would have been an awesome rig but I wouldn't want to be the one loading and unloading it from the truck every night.
