Alnico Magnet Swap in a Humbucker

I was unhappy with the pickups on my guitar and decided to try a mag swap ($8 a LOT cheaper than the Lollar and Gibson pickups I want to upgrade to). The neck tone was uninspiring and the bridge had too many overtones (probably due to the guitar body being made of ziricote). In the neck I have a GFS...

Re: Anyone else love Mark 1 mode?

Mark 1 is the hardest mode for me to get into. It easily nails the Santana tones which I am not really into. Other than that, I generally find it unusable. I have played it a lot through 45w mode on Variac and still don't love it. The tone is so fat it seems clumsy to me. Maybe single coils would wo...

Re: II C+!!!!

Very cool. I recently rediscovered the Mark II C+ mode by cranking the power pubes all the way and bringing up the gain. Raunchy clipped fuzz tones (Jack White/Black Keys) burst from my speaker.

Re: Im looking for a chorus pedal. Any recommendations?

I bought the Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail Delay and it has a beautiful and unique chorus effect when on it's shortest settings with no loss in volume. The delay sounds amazing too.

Re: School me on EQ

Are you running the C90 speaker? It is more finicky than a V30 or EVM12L.

Mesa Cab Clone- Any one tried it?

I checked out the specs and demo. It looks awesome! Any experience with these?

Do you know which speaker cabs and speakers these are modeled after?

Re: Please help. Hearing radio transmissions through my mar

First the good news. It's not your amp. Welcome to your guitar becoming an AM radio antenna. Probably does not happen on the clean channel also are you using a Telecaster or Stratocaster? They seem to be more susceptible to doing musical double duty. I spoke to an Electronics Tech just today about ...

Re: Plastic power tube lead broke off inside of amp

Thanks Dom- I have tried tweezers and tried to start a screw as well. The plastic is quite hard. I can't get a screw to go in. As for current, do you know how to drain it so I don't fry myself?

Plastic power tube lead broke off inside of amp

I was swapping the positions of the matched tube to try to extend tube life (since I mostly play on 10w) and one of my tubes would not go in. I noticed that the plastic lead (on the bottom center of the vacuum tube) had snapped off inside the socket. I have tried several methods to get it out and it...

Re: Mark V combo with V30?

I tried the Mark V with the C90 at GC and thought it was the worst sounding amp I have ever heard (disclaimer: this was before I knew anything about dialing in the tone). If there had not been a 4x4 stack with v30's to plug into, I would have never touched one of these again. Here is a great video o...

Re: Mark V good enough?

Mark V plus a BBE 427 Pedal (LED based OD pedal) does a pretty good job for hitting that tone on Channel 2.

Re: what comp for your clean tone?

I had a Rothwell Love Squeeze and it was very quiet with nearly imperceptible tone coloration. They can be hard to find but well worth it. After my luthier stabilized my humbuckers by shimming them with wood so they would not vibrate, I found I did not have as much need for a compressor for what I u...

Re: Which pedals work well with the V? Which don't?

Bluestoned1: Thanks for sharing on the RMC pedals. I am going to have to grab one since my antique Vox finally died. Have you tried running them at 18v? I emailed with Teese and he said they can be run at 18v, but are voiced for 9v. I am going to skip on the Box of Rock as the Distortron is based on...
