Re: Tweed Heaven!

I've had many more gigs with the same setup this summer. The past 2 gigs we had sound reinforcement supplied for us and, each time, the sound guys have approached me afterwards to compliment my tone. Both were gushing with praise, and while I wanted to just say, "Yeah, I know, right?" I was much mor...

Re: Mark V through 2x12 recto vs cab clone

I've read somewhere on here that running the Cab Clone by itself with no speakers will produce a different tone. I also use a Cab Clone with my V in Tweed mode at gigs and have to often turn down the knob on the Cab Clone to keep the clipping down to the level I get from my cab. I've only tried sile...

Re: 12AX7 or 12AT7 in V6 opinions

Hi all, very new to tube swapping so doing a load of reading. I have a MkV:25 which has a 12AX7 in V6/Driver/Phase Inverter spot. Have any of you guys any opinions/joys/horror stories with replacing the 12AX7 with a 12AT7 in the V6 spot? Just looking for some guidance before I splash out on replace...

Re: TC-100 with Mesa 5BGEQ, Oh yeah!

That was an awesome demo, Bandit! I've had a mini 5BEQ pedal for some time, but haven't had the chance to try it yet. Now, it's pretty much a must. That really expands the palette of tones from the TC series!

HUGE +1 with the RedBack and the Mark V. Best clean tone I've ever had in Tweed mode on channel 1.

Re: Greenbacks?

I've had my eye on the Neo Creamback for a while, but no real need for one yet. The sound clips I've heard sounded pretty good. My EV is in a Carvin 1x12 tweed open back cab. I'm not sure I can actually remove the grill, but it definitely needs to come off. I can see one of the t-nuts dislodged itse...

Re: Tung-Sol in your Boogie

With some tube vendors, you can tell them what amp you are buying for, and they will select tubes that are more suitable for a Boogie. The only caveat is that if your amp was still under warranty, then using non-Mesa power tubes would void the warranty. I have almost all Tung-Sol tubes in my Electra...

Re: Greenbacks?

I generally prefer to stand or sit off axis from the cab, regardless of the amp because of the beaming effect. I need to repair my single 12 with my EVM speaker. Rattled the screws right out of place. I may have to resort to some thread locker, lol! That massive thread on the Mark V Saturation Mod w...

Re: Greenbacks?

Got to play the amp and cab in a band setting yesterday. Cut through the mix great! Amp still sounded glorious with other instruments involved. Ran a Timmy clone with channel 2. Totally amazing! Channel 3 was just as amazing, minus the Timmy. Clean channel was pristine! The entire setup is perfected...

Re: Greenbacks?

I finally got the opportunity to hear my new speaker combo at a proper volume. Even without the Invader being broken in, OMG! I've always leaned more towards a vintage tone, and this combo nails it in spades! I actually had to turn up my treble and presence. The highs are more rounded and the lows a...

Re: Volume Levels in Channel 1 Modes

I bought my V used. The first thing I did was replace all the tubes since the seller told me the tubes were original from 2009. I would also recommend using a can of DeOxit on the tube sockets. Mine had to be thoroughly cleaned with tiny bottle brushes. Fortunately, DeOxit makes a kit for that as we...

Re: Greenbacks?

I tried the WGS British Lead in that same cab and it wasn't what I was hoping for. I love that speaker in an open back cab I have, especially paired with my Electra Dyne. But the closed back vertical 2x12 just didn't have the same magic to my ears. I was lucky enough to receive my cab with the V30 a...

Re: Tweed Heaven!

In Tweed mode, I used full power, bold switch engaged, EQ off, gain at 9 o'clock, channel master at noon, bass at 9 o'clock, mid just under 9 o'clock, treble about 10 o'clock, presence just under 9 o'clock, and output at noon. That's all assuming my knobs didn't get knocked around moving the head.

Re: EHX 6CA7, very interesting

The EH 6CA7s are some of my favorite tubes, but they really are amp-specific. My Carvin Legacy 1 sounds like it was made for those tubes, but not so much in my Electra Dyne. When I first got my Mark V, I put a quad of 6CA7s in that amp just for a quick test and was really blown away by the change in...

Re: Was looking at Celesiton Web and found this. 150W Red ba

The "vintage" single 12 cab I put the Redback in is open back. I gigged with the cab and my Mark V last weekend and had the best tone I've ever had with that band. Truly amazing!
