Re: Mesa MarkV / Saturation 'mod'

FWIW, TubeDepot is offering the JAN Phillips 12AT7WTC for 9.95 each for a few days.

Re: 6V6 tubes

I was on vacation for a little over a week, so I have yet to give the tubes a shot. Being a TC50 owner as well, my first guess would also have been to use the EL34 bias. The thread I dug up with a "master list" of power tubes you can use with the V is fairly old and said to use the 6L6 bias setting ...

Re: 6V6 tubes

I took a chance and ordered a quad of 6V6 tubes. Will post my findings.

6V6 tubes

I found an old thread containing a "master list" of compatible power tubes for the V. In that list, 6V6 tubes were listed as being compatible as long as Variac power was used. I also saw a combination of 6L6 and 6V6 (the V's as the inner pair) that also called for variac power and never using the 10...

Re: Mud in the red channel - stock tubes.

I guessed you probably did, but no one had asked yet. I find I want more low end in mine sometimes, but never had any flub. I'm using a Recto vertical 2x12 cab. Bottom speaker is the Mesa V30 and top speaker is a WGS Invader 50. The WGS actually added some lower mids that I felt were missing...still...

Re: Mud in the red channel - stock tubes.

I don't play much metal these days, at least not so much modern metal. The first obvious question I have is: have you flipped the Tight switch on channel 3? If so, have you tried a graphic EQ in the loop? A few posts down in this section have some sound samples of a TC100 with a graphic in the loop ...

Re: TC50, tube talk

I have had more luck with variances in tone from changing power tubes than with preamp tubes. I've tried the stock EL34s, Mesa 6V6, Mesa 6L6 and Mesa 5881s. I am currently running a pair of Mesa's =C= EL34 tubes. I personally did not care for the 6L6 or 5881s. To my old ears, they sounded a bit dull...

JAN GE 5751

Yesterday, I found pairs of NOS JAN GE 5751 tubes on eBay for $35 per pair. That's less than half for the price of one. The pics looked good so I ordered a pair. Sure, that's risky, but I took the chance. There is one more pair at that price, with the next highest price being $49.95 per pair with $6...

Re: Greenbacks?

I've read some good things about those EVH speakers as well. I have another WGS Invader 50 on the way. I don't think I will keep both in my vertical recto cab, but I do want to try it just once...hell, twice or more if I like it. So far, though, the combo of the V30 and the Invader is definitely whe...

KLD Pan Amps PB1

Has anyone ever used one of these attenuators? From what I have read, they are resistive instead of reactive. Only attenuator I have ever used was a Hot Plate and it squeezed my tone to the point that I just sold it. Was curious if this one would do the same.

Re: Tweed Heaven!

I've had many more gigs with the same setup this summer. The past 2 gigs we had sound reinforcement supplied for us and, each time, the sound guys have approached me afterwards to compliment my tone. Both were gushing with praise, and while I wanted to just say, "Yeah, I know, right?" I was much mor...

Re: Mark V through 2x12 recto vs cab clone

I've read somewhere on here that running the Cab Clone by itself with no speakers will produce a different tone. I also use a Cab Clone with my V in Tweed mode at gigs and have to often turn down the knob on the Cab Clone to keep the clipping down to the level I get from my cab. I've only tried sile...

Re: 12AX7 or 12AT7 in V6 opinions

Hi all, very new to tube swapping so doing a load of reading. I have a MkV:25 which has a 12AX7 in V6/Driver/Phase Inverter spot. Have any of you guys any opinions/joys/horror stories with replacing the 12AX7 with a 12AT7 in the V6 spot? Just looking for some guidance before I splash out on replace...
