Re: 412 with V30's not so great with Mark V head

Just to note: there is a different tone quality difference between V30, C90 and the EVM. That is not the problem or issue I have with the Celestions. I can get similar tones out of the EVM depending on what guitar I play and which channel I am using. The main issue is the beam effect from Celection ...

Re: 412 with V30's not so great with Mark V head

I may have some bias towards EV ever since I had a mark III. That was and still is an awsome amp. I sold it to a freind at work who bought it for his son for a Christmas present. I would agree, speakers are the final tone adjustment. My desire was for something a bit neutral and not so tone defining...

Re: Orange launches valve/tube tester

Now that is an accessory I will definately consider. I already have a box of tubes that I am uncertain are good or bad. I have become a tube hoarder....

Smoked one of the power tubes

I had a few issues with the mark V. On several occasions while playing through channel 3 the amp shut down. My fist thoughts were either power tube or speaker blowing out. In all occurances I was operating in the 45W mode at full power. I am also using the effects loop so I can have a master volume ...

Re: Carvin Guitars

I have been a Carvin fan and owner since 2000. I found a used DC200 Koa in a small guitar shop in PA. After playing it, I just could not leave the shop without taking it home. The only part of that guitar I disliked was the bridge. It did not take long before I installed a Kahler 2300. I finally dec...

Re: First Axe

I can barely remember it. The first guitar I ever bought was a semi hollow shaped like a Frank Gambale signature Carvin. It was probably built in late 60's. It had single coil pickups similar to old Les Paul Studio but thinner. String action was high enough I could fit my hand between the strings an...

Re: many amps louder than my mark v?

There is one characteristic I discovered early with the MARK V amp. When you bypass the EQ the amp seems to be weak in output. Almost if at half power. Some how I believe you loose a gain stage in the preamp section when you do not use the EQ. Try turning it on and leave the all of the sliders in th...

I was going to ask about the effects used but you already posted that earlier.

Re: Changed my 6L6's few questions

Some power tubes are noisy. The internals tend to vibrate. I have a set of tubes that like to sing with moderate volume (6L6 GC STR 420 coke bottle shape which were the original tubes from by MKIV combo). They sound really good in the Mark V head and I did not notice vibration as much if at all as I...

Re: Mark V Channel Switching Lag

I have the same or similar lag when switching channels. I also hear it when changing modes or power settings without changing channels. I believe it may be related to the reverb circuit as it seems to shut down when channel switching. I will have to try changing channels with the reverb off. I am us...

412 with V30's not so great with Mark V head

I tried to post this earlier but got disconnected... I bought myself a new Mark V head since I already had the Dual Rect. 4x12 cab (used it with my MKIV combo once in a while). At first, the mkV head sounded awsome through the cab. I kept the volume low and use the 45w setting. I still play through ...

Re: Help Help! (Strange issue Barley any volume on all chann

If V7 does not resolve the problem.... Try the other 8 ohm output or one of the 4 ohm outputs (that would be safe if you cab is 8 ohms or less). Is the effects loop active? If so, place it into hard bypass. If that corrects the problem replace V6 (Circuit B is used for effect return). Had a simiar i...

Re: New Mark V head shell day! Any advice on the swap out?

Amp removal from the old shell is easy. Just remember to loosten the support under the transformer. I took mine apart to investigate why the effects loop was not working by the footswitch. Needed to verify if the center terminal was used. Of course they gave me the wrong cable for the amp, even thou...
