Re: Mark V combo speaker help (V30 closed cab like tone)

I didn't like the C90 in my 1x12 combo....For the same reasons you mentioned. I put in an Eminence "The Governor", I immediately liked it better! Everything sounded better, lows, mids and highs. I then did my normal "speaker break-in" routine - where I run my iPod through my little PA into the speak...

Re: mk v head vs 90w combo

New guy here. I for one prefer the head and cabinet route. Every combo I've ever had developed tube problems from the vibration of the speaker, and they were always too heavy. I also prefer the tone of a 4x12 or a 2x12. I know you can unplug the speaker of a combo and plug it into a cab, but then w...

Re: mk v head vs 90w combo

About 50 pounds! Just preference.....Exact same in every way, just you're locked into the combo cab. You can always run a 1x12, or bigger, extension cab with the combo too. I really like Combo's over head/cab setup for the ease of "plug and play". But the weight is sometimes a deal breaker to some p...

Yeah, wait until you're in a "non-digital" area and you get a call (and your phone is by your amp). It sounds like a freaking helicopter with a machine gun!

Re: Mark V and Boogie pedals for drive

I tried a Throttle Box, didn't like it if front of my Mesa or Dr. Z.

But I do want to try a Flux drive....I currently use a TS type pedal (Paisley Drive) in front of it for some added depth or drive levels.

Thanks Chester. Ordering 2 matched sets of EL34s now.
Make sure who ever you order them from know they are going in a Mark V... Some tubes can run too hot and mess up the amp ;)

Yeah, there lies the problem..... I got them from a Fender repair man that said he had a whole stack of these because he liked them in his Twins.

Oh well, maybe I can find somebody to trade me?

Non-Mesa tubes - How safe?

I bought my 2012 Mark V used, so I don't actually know how much it was used?? To be safe, I bought some new tubes a few weeks ago - some JJ 6L6gc tubes and put them in my amp..... They smoothed out the top end, brought out the mids and lowered the bass just a little and tightened up everything. Over...

Re: Amp Affected by Temperature?

I think worse would be having the cold amp sit in a warm, humid room and get all wet inside from condensation. I'd probably fire up a cold amp ASAP. I live in Missouri, we go from -10 in the winter to 102 in the summer. Usually anything over 80-85 degrees, the amps dont stay in my car too long. As ...

Re: New (EL34) tubes = Louder and reverb /less affect in twe

I switched back to 6L6's.. I may try some EL34's later down the road, but the 6L6's just seem to "work" best with this amp. Try a set of JJ's KT66's. I am using a quartet of those in my V and it sounds massive. It's gonna be a while before I experiment with tubes.. I just spent over $150 on tubes, ...

Mark V vs Roadster with a Telecaster: Which do you like?

Just curious.. I like the Mark V best, but just for comparison I found an old recording I did with the same guitar to the same track: First : Mesa Boogie Mark V 1x12 combo with an Eminence Governor. Guitar was a Telecaster with a Lindy Fralin Blues Special single coil pickup. Mark IV mode With the l...

Re: New Mark V owner Questions

So I did a bad thing I have had a Mark V a little over a year now and missed my recto tone so while trying the Throttle box and The Triple Wreck Wampler and I boosted my Mark V with the mesa tone burst(sounded good). I was trying to get it into early recto territory because I wanted to see what it ...

Re: How quiet is your MkV???

My Mark V is pretty quite... Even with the master up about 1/3 the way, the noisiest channel is channel 1 in Tweed mode, I get a slight hiss. But Channel 2 in Mark 1 mode and gain about 2:00 and channel 3 in Mark IV mode with the gain maxed and treble about 2:00 are both quieter than channel 1. When...
