Re: What to change in my Mark IV?

Take it to a professional repairman first. Tell him you need a diagnostic an overhaul and a Cap job. Every 10-12 years these amplifiers need new filter capacitors. I replaced mine on a Mark 1, and now I love the sound, volume is much higher... I also had it voiced for more upper mids like an old Mar...

Re: Mod Kits for Mesa Amps????

MT- It would be cool to swap out a pair of 6L6s for EL34s. You couldn't make a non simulclass amp into a simulaclass amp without an OT replacement, but you could rewire for one set of EL34s instead. Running a set of 6L6s and EL34s would be very nice for all of us that don't have a simulclass amp. I...

Re: Mark III HELP!

I got my mark 1 reissue re-capped and revoiced. now its purrrfect  all 19 year old amps need a new set of electrolytics. I can no longer turn it up past 2-3 unless I have hearing protection! (like my first boogie was a Mark 3 w/EQ, simul-class and celestion, and it ruled on the Class ...

Re: Tube Find!!! NOS Mullard 12AX7 now in V1

f%&# A' dude Fall of 2003

I found a killer Packard bELL stereo 2 blocks from mom and dad's and it said $70.

the auction people let me have it for 35 because it is the last day of the sale

it was a 1965 packard bell,

the tubes are packard bell relabeled... :D f%&#' Amperex Bugle Boys

these tubes are expensive wine-style tubes! amperex was a factory in holland and

I had 2 phase inverter 7025's
and 4 el 84s they sounded awesome in my Sovtek MiG60 (you know the one that's better than newer Marshalls)
The sovTek had ok tubes before , now I was smiling ear-ear because it had the Bugle Boy in V1!!

I still have the amplifier and the cabinet is solid Maple(2" by 1.5" by 18" strips of Maple all glued together) . 2 old-school 12" speakers and 2 mid-tweeters.

When I get $$$ that cabinet will get an upgrade or something. Its got mojo and the amplifier will prob'ly get a bottle rocket in front for boogie-ing sounds! Needs a vintage turntable and some radio parts too, but when it worked it sounded chime-y like rory's vox, I played the calling card album thru and it sounded good!

yeah Estate sales can be nice and 3 el 84s surviverd although I did drop one when i got some beers in me one night. Maybe the philco el84 will work with the other 3 !

Re: mk III sound problem [ never has sounded right ]

I had a bad sound on my amp, seems to have gone away with servicing pots and replacing the caps

Now I need to upgrade my ears for the volume increase

Whatever they made in 1988-9! I sent Randall $$ until I had Mk3 with Simul-Class, wheels, a Celestion, and EQ.

Re: old or new boogies: witch iz betta'?

I had re-capped and retubed a Mark 1 re-issue, and the guy replaced 2 cap and a resistor in the pre-amp for a more marshall-like sound (made in Jan '90). It is now sounding really good, better than the mitchell pro 100 plus oversized and closed up 112 EVM cab I used to judge everything by ( I think ...

Re: Help me choose my first Mark series amp

The Mark 1 Reissue is nice if you get a pedal. Plus, the 2 inputs can be a/b'd, and there is a Gil Ayan mod lurking in these pages :)
