Re: PSA- DC-3 bias mod

lol that was confusing for me. So, in basic terms, the DC-3 in stock form is running the EL-84's too hot? And this mod reduces the level at which the tubes are run to be more appropriate? I've never had reliability issues with my DC-3, but I'm curious: what effect does this have on the sound of the...

Re: 12ay7 PI?

after further noodle's,the lower gain tubes work out real well for home use,but the 12ax7 is were it's at when it comes to the full band thing.IMO of course.I think for recording it would also be better to have the lower gain for less noise.I've also realized that different 12ax's make big differen...

Re: 12ay7 PI?

Iwas running a 12at7 in the PI and liked it fine. The 12ay7 is just better in tone for me.Seems to have a better range of treble and bass. The amp still has plenty of volume on tap. Could be the balance of the triodes or the other parameters of the tube that react differently when subbed for a positi...

Re: How can I run a GEQ with my DC-2 head?

So...running the eq in the loop has MORE affect on the overall sound. How can you affect the tone being produced by the amp without affecting the other effects in the loop? For example, I am running an Eventide MF and TF in the loop, so the logical place for the EQ to be in the loop, for me that is...

Re: How can I run a GEQ with my DC-2 head?

Heat issues are pretty much like the DC3,It needs the bias modded to generate less heat and prolong tube life.As far as GEQ goes. You would most likely run it in the FX loop. You would probly need a EQ that handles a line level signal.(not completly sure on that tho)A lot of it would depend on how mu...

Re: 12ay7 PI?

I would try both(12AT7 and 12AY7). See which works best. Of all the places to try the "less than musical" 12AT7 the PI is a good one.Bob

Re: Need help playing live...

One of the best things Ive done is get a wireless. I go out in front and listen to the mix plus its a lot of fun! Its usually much louder than I hear on stage. The CD beam blockers help get some sound up to my ears though. Bob

Re: Need help playing live...

Tilt the amp up a bit toward you. Bob This has already been said a few times. :) It's a good point! Missed it. Theres another simple, cheap thing you can try. Take a CD,drill a small hole near the edge and attach a thin wirehook to it. Hang the CD in the middle of the grill to use as a beam blocker....

Never tried them. They are Chinese and could probably be bought cheaper elsewhere. Hopefully the Ruby testing is worth it though. Bob

Re: I now have a water-damaged Dual Recto.

I know its too late but it might have fared better if you opened it up and blew it out completely then let it dry for a while-perhaps over a heating vent. Of course it may not have helped either......... : > ( Bob

Re: What are you pushing the front end of your MV with?

Use use a GEQ in the loop and Seymour Duncan PU booster in front.
Usually I'll hit them simultaneously for a slightly louder higher gain solo boost. (They are side by side)Sometimes only the EQ if additional gain isnt required. Bob
