What cab and speakers are you running? With V30's I can see the mud forming. It is unbelievable how low you can go with the EV's and no mudd. |
I'm running the cabs in my sig at 8 Ohm with G12T 75s - can dial out any muddy response easily

Damn right that this is not for a novice like me - thanks for the insight

Any noticable changes in sound or power tube behaviour? Interesting you have had issues with tube reliability that I have not had at all with my MKV after +4 years .. could this cure that?

Re: Switch to RKII?!?

It is all subjective.... At least the Mark V can be tailored with preamp tubes. The Mark IV, RA100, and the Roadster do not seem to be as responsive with different tubes. Actually the Mark IV sounds good no matter what tubes you use. +1 The MKV is almost too sensitive to changes. I have also gone b...

Re: Drive pedal for Road King EL34 medium gain

Not the same. Looking for a different "color" than stock Mesa gain tone. My thoughts exactly I now use a BB+, which has 2 stackable channels with separate gain / EQ. Works a treat on CH3 / 4 in Vintage mode, and creates 2 additional flavours. I set both channels at relatively low gain to work with ...

Re: Lonestar Classic with a Les Paul Over a backtrack HD

Nice job - great tone and touch

Did you change channel when you went from neck to bridge pup, or did the light crunch tone all come from the guitar controls?

Re: School me on EQ

For me it's all in the volume on the guitar. I can back the volume off a bit and do crunch rhythm, back it off more and get sparkly clean, open up the volume and pull overdriven leads and never change the channel. No rules, use your ears and try everything. This is the key for me through the MKV. C...

Re: Roadster ½ stack in - Mark III out...

Well done on the Roadster - and there is nothing wrong with your English either .. Great amp, and I agree that Tweed / Brit are excellent. Huge variety of tones available. I have now settled on =C= EL34's with a Tung Sol in V1 to brighten up the preamp response in CH3 and 4. I also leave an EP boost...

Re: Maverick... tweak it or trade it.

Sounds like the Mav is the amp for you .. Try tweaking the preamp by rolling tubes. A Tungsol in V1 worked well in my Roadster to brighten up preamp response. I have also gone back to EL34's to bring out more upper mids and tighten up bass - 6L6's were too bass heavy through my rig EL84's should get...

Re: losing volume intermittently for all 3 channels.... HELP

I had this happen once, through my Matchless. Rolled V1 and power tubes as first thought, but turned out the rectifier tube was starting to fail. Matchless also suggested I change the PI Did both, cured problem If you are based in Europe, Watford Valves or Hot Rox are excellent for Mesa valve replac...

Re: NAD: Roadster Head

Considering how close the Roadster sounds to the RA100, I probably would not miss the RA100 if I did not have it. However, I do enjoy the RA100. Thanks for the input - I thought this could be the outcome. That said, if I can find a used head in good condition (UK spec), I may join the RA owners clu...

Re: NAD: Roadster Head

Hey Bandit Would be interested in your view of the Roadster with EL34's, and how it compares to the RA 100 I've been gassing after an RA for a while, but think I get that ground well covered with =C= EL34's under the Roadster hood. Makes the amp less dark and a lot more versatile through my rig - 6L...

+1

In my case the BB+ which allows stacking one voicing onto another - with EQ that works with the core sound of the V, not against it

Also used a Fulltone FD2 for years which was excellent - found I only needed the BB+ to get what I want, so sold it
