Re: Mesa 20/20 Deep Mod

If you merely remove the cathode bypass cap you'll lose some gain, so it's better to replace it with something around a 22uf 16V or better cap. They're polarized so watch that when you do this, and watch out for any stored charge in the power supply filter caps (best to discharge them or have a pro...

Re: Tube screams

There's nothing wrong with the Ibanez Tube Screamer, really. Look for the Maxon ones.

Re: Mesa 20/20 Deep Mod

Nice to see that so many of you tried this mod. :D In terms of tweaking the cap value, there's a lot of room for experimentation and really, depending on your preamp, you might want to cut some bass out to tighten things up. In saying that, my view is that the power amp shouldn't need to cut anythin...

Nice job on taking my mod and making a product out of it

Re: How to rack ADA MP-2 and Marshall JMP-1 together

The more I think about it though, I think you would end up with a popping sound if you were switching between preamps - unless you had them electronically buffered somehow. Easiest way would be to use the first technique you suggested - a switchable splitter, two noise gate pedals, then a small lin...

Re: 2:90 2:Ninety Bias mod?

I'm actually working on this. I'm trying to figure out how to bias the class A section separately from the Class AB section.

Re: How to rack ADA MP-2 and Marshall JMP-1 together

If you have a single power amp and want to run both simultaneously or have the option of switching them in/out, a BOSS LS-2 pedal is the best solution. A simple Y cable will not work because it will load the output of your preamps, lowering their output and degrading the signal. Edit - The Radial Sw...

2:90 2:Ninety Bias mod?

Has anyone done this? I'd like to be able to adjust the bias in my 2:90 so I can try different tubes. It looks like 2 of the tubes running at the -57 bias voltage are the ones I want to play around with since they are the Class AB pair while the other two are the class A power tubes with cathode bia...

Re: 2:90 owner

Changing the tubes out shouldn't be your first option. That's gonna get expensive real quick. Do the basics first as outlined in my 1st post to you. I'd also add that you should clean the presence and volume controls with tuner cleaner.

Re: 2:90 owner

Wow. Great deal.
For the volume fading in/out, try cleaning all the jacks, cleaning / re-tensioning all tube sockets and then, changing the 12AX7 tubes and

I like to run the 2:90 at the halfway mark (12:00) and adjust the preamp accordingly. It gives me a good point of reference.

Re: Mesa 20/20 Deep Mod

OMG! I am a fool. Never again will I doubt a piece of Mesa gear again. I had been using the 20/20 to get sounds at ridiculously quiet levels. The amp is made to be turned up and has a "sweet spot" right at about 10-11 o'clock. Now, mind you... thats pretty loud even for a 20 watt amp, but it really...

Re: 12AX7 Tubes for Quad Preamp

The closest thing you'll find is Ei. Great tubes but can be microphonic in high gain applications. Use them wisely in key spots and use Tung Sols for the rest.

Trust me, the 20/20 is loud enough to cover pretty much any situation you'll ever encounter, unless you're playing stadiums.
