Re: Lowering the wattage on my Mark IV

Re: Mark IV versions?

Sonically identical, the medium head has more switches on the front, the short has them on the back instead.

Re: are E34L safe in the outter pair of a simul MKIII

The important thing is that you only use power tubes that are within spec for use in Mesa amps. The right type of tube of the wrong spec could be very costly !!

Re: Mark IV's FX loops keeps going quiet

No coz it is only the B half that sounds dodgy. V2A is also a lead gain stage and that seems ok, just the V2B half is suspect, put it in V4 and see if the problem goes away. It's not a permanent fix by any means, but it will eliminate if the tube is faulty or not. :D

Re: Mark IV's FX loops keeps going quiet

You MUST have a tube in V4 as one half is a gain stage for the lead channel !! V2B sounds like the loop problem and V4B is the reverb send stage.Just swap em see if it makes a difference.

Try swapping V2 with V4, I doubt you use the reverb anyway ?? :)

Re: Tubes to replace STR-420 and 7025 12AX7s?

The STR420 is a Chinese tube, great tone but short life usually !! What make are the preamp tubes you bought ?? The Ruby tubes are in spec for use in a Boogie I assume ? Cheap tubes are a waste of money, ALWAYS buy preamp tubes that are tested for high gain and low microphonics, and always buy match...

I'm sure the tube experts can confirm if I am right or not.
No you don't :D

Re: STR-430s...how old?

I'd say about 2006. My 2002/3 Single Rec has STR430's, my 2007/8 MKIV has STR 440's.

Re: Mark IV effects loop

Try changing the 12ax7 in v2 (next to the shielded one), that powers the FX return stage.

Re: ...New DC-3 head owner has several questions... Please read!

I think it may need to mod the volume knob but i'll play with it again and make sure. I wasn't paying much attention as I was trying to get a feel for the amp otherwise... I did notice that the FX mix knob had no effect on output volume which makes me wonder if the loop has already been modded... I...

If the tubes are in all the way, they shouldn't be loose at all. Sounds like the bases are worn or damaged :(

Re: Anybody looking for Mark IV's , Here now it's your chance

My MKIV is a keeper, I wouldn't use the MKV tube rectifier modes, only advantage I see for me is the Solo function, but I can live without it !! :D I have no problem with R2 either.

Re: My problem with the Mark V design

The MKIV produces 50 watts when just the two outer tubes are selected, supposedly Class A.
