Re: Mesa STR420 "Coke Bottle"

they are shuguang 6L6/5881 tubes. No different than the straight glass tubes. I like them, they are no longer produced. I would not waste a lot of time looking for replacements.

Re: Phase Inverter tube quesetion

Of course, in some amps only one side of the PI tube is used...so balanced really doesn't matter...even then, it still really doesn't matter as everything else in the amp is not balanced...balanced preamp tubes is actually marketing hype made up by sellers to get more money out of the consumer for s...

Re: How old were you when you started playing guitar?

My uncle brought me a handmade classical guitar from South America in 1969. Was taking piano lessons at the time, didn't get to take guitar lesson too. 1972, age 14 I broke my upper arm severely while trying to imitate Evel Knieval. (did a jump off a patio and struck a large pine tree...) They could...

Re: Elixir strings last longer than Ernie Ball?

For the last year or so I have been using Dean Markley Blue Steel strings with excellent results. No broken strings, great tone and they last a really long time.

and once again: you will have to listen to it for a while and decide if *you* like the tone or not. nobody can tell you what your stuff sounds like except you.

Re: Dumb Question

sometimes when a power tube goes it will take a resistor or two with it. sometimes not. if a rectifier tube goes,,the fuse will blow but usually no resistors go. if you replaced a power tube and the amp works fine, you probably don't have a problem. Mesa's are pretty tough amps...

Re: When I first played the guitar

I had been taking piano lessons from age 6. My uncle brought me a classical guitar from South America in 1970. At age 14 in 1973 I broke my left arm above the elbow just below my shoulder. They did not want to do surgery because of my age so they put a really heavy cast on my arm from my shoulder to...

Re: Mark V + two cabs. 1 x 4ohm and 1 x 8ohm together. OK?

connecting it the way you suggest, your total impedance is going to be 2.7 ohms. The 8 ohm cab is only going to get 33.3% of the output power
