Re: Hanging golden screw behind 2 second power tube....

That's probably the screw puts tension on the chassis, I assume to lessen vibrations and maybe help ground the shielding on the top of the amp. Most Mesa amps have them. It's a pretty common concern and is nothing to worry about.

Re: Downgrading from a Mark V to a Rectoverb 25 Head...

Different amp, but an example of a modern lower wattage Mesa amp- I've got a Mark Five:25, and it's not a great low volume living room amp. The sound is kinda flat when the channel masters are turned low (especially the lead sound). In fact, I use an attenuator with it at home. From what I've read, ...

Re: I don't love my Mark V

Different amp, but it may affect your situation- I found my Mark Five:25 to sound pretty dull and lifeless unless I turn up the channel masters and use an attenuator with it (when required).

Re: DC-2

When I had a DC-3, there was a resistor or cap that I removed from the lead channel that really opened up the lead tone. I can't remember the details and don't know if the DC-2 is similar. You can probably search for it on this forum.

Re: Is mesa boogie still open with corona virus ongoing?

I emailed them on Saturday and heard back from Garey within a few minutes but I suspect that he answered the email from home and the issue didn't need to be escalated.

It's possible that they both had a bad tube. It's always the first thing to consider when an amp gives you problems.

Sounds like a bad preamp tube.

Re: 25 combo conversion?

The Mesa built 1x10" combo looks like a toy! It's barely bigger than a Champ. I'll be most people would assume it's a solid state practice amp. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49840024937_eced7d2a38_b.jpg Next to my Mojotone tweed Champ clone- https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49656224436_442c...

Re: 25 combo conversion?

There was another DIY Mark Five:25 1x12" combo. The builder put green Tolex on theirs.

Re: 25 combo conversion?

And by the way.....that little combo has had a ton of gigs on it and I still love it. Weighs in at 24 pounds. I saw that Mesa came out with a 1x10 combo - but I still like the 12 and I bet mine is lighter than theirs.... :) My 1x10 combo weighs 24 pounds. It's impressive that yours weighs the same ...

Re: 25 combo conversion?

I went with the 1x10" combo. I'm a fan of combos and like it a lot. It's the ultimate grab and go amp on its own for practice, jams and rehearsals and is portable enough to use as a head if that's the sound you're after. There was a guy on this forum a few years ago who made his own Mark V:25 1x12" ...

Perfect thanks. Do you know if the the two foot switches are compatible with both newer and older models?
Unfortunately, my advice was about Mesa amps in general. I don't have a Mark V 90 watt. I have a Mark V:25 combo.
