Re: Studio 22

Let's chill out a little, and accept that good tone is a matter of opinion, not fact, before we go encouraging folks to spend up big. IMO, the Eminence that comes stock with the Studio 22 is a good sounding speaker, certainly not crap. I replaced mine with a Tone Tubby Red Alnico, and HATED it. I cu...

Re: The power of 750

The V EQ shape is great for not getting in the vocalist's way. But if you want to cut through, you need mids.

Re: Who made the 12"/50w "Vintage Black Shadow" Speaker?

I have tried many speakers in my Studio 22+, including Weber alnico Blue Dog, alnico Tone Tubby, and currently have a Weber (can't remember the model, it's their take on a Fane). Having tried all these, I've come to the conclusion that the original Black Shadow was a very nice speaker, and well suit...

Re: Studio 22+ weight?

If you're a constant tweaker, the graphic EQ may be necessary. Personally I find constant tweaking gets in the way of my playing. I find the sweet spot and leave it there.

Re: Studio 22+ weight?

I read a post by someone who owns one and weighed it, saying it weighs 37 pounds. Sounds about right.

Re: RE Caliber 22 or Rocket 44

Don't know too much about the Rocket, but I've had a Studio 22+ since new in 1990. For what you want, I'd go for that. It'll be loud enough for small gigs if you want. If you get a 22 and not a 22+, you will likely have some trouble balancing the channels. I'd get it modded for a lead channel master...

Re: Strange writings inside Amps

I read on (I think it was) the Telecaster forum, that Randall Smith listens to jazz music while he is designing PCBs. Whichever song he's listening to as he finishes, the title is written on all those model amplifiers' PCBs. I don't know if this is true, but Scrapple From The Apple is the name of a ...

Re: Mark III cap job woes

I know this can be frustrating, but perhaps your tech is simply trying to do the right thing by you, and save you some money? I have a late 80's Studio 22+ and got the same reply from my tech, "they really don't need replacing". I thought the same thing, why doesn't he just do it? The answer is, 'ca...

Re: Low end thump from a mark III

I may have missed something here, but how can you expect your bottom end NOT to be weak, if you're running your bass control on zero?
