More MKIV A questions.....R2

Hello....wouldn't normally start another MKIV A thread since I've already started one.....but it's so dead here, I figured it wouldn't matter. Is it just me, or does the R2 on early MKIV A's seem sweeter sounding & easier over all to get a great sound out of? I remember this with my very first MKIV ...

Re: Mark IIC+ recap - huge improvement

Sounded great!!!! Thanks! I just did a new one covering Leper Messiah, this time recorded properly instead of with a camera phone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxWs-I8cge0 Honestly when I first got the c+ I was confused because I was expecting this super tight beast and it was actually the most ...

Re: 1992 MKIV A....re-cap & spare parts

I have seen amps where the caps are fine over fifty years. If they go bad it can do a fair amount of damage. But there is no way to tell how long they will last...... I have read and heard this also through the years, but the MKIV, I just acquired is the oldest amp I've ever had. Even though this a...

Re: Maintenance For Mark IIC+
Most General Services run about $250-$350 unless there are issues. Sometimes its less - but if there are issues such as leaking electrolytic fluid, shorts, burns, etc - it can run a bit more. We rarely see repairs over $400, unless its really catastrophic.
Thank you Mesa for answerin...

Re: Maintenance For Mark IIC+

Out of curiosity....anyone know how much it would cost (including shipping) to send it to Mesa for a recap job including shipping? A full General Service, which usually includes a complete cap job, checking ALL components specs, re-building the pots, cleaning jacks, sockets, etc and a thorough head...

Re: Mark IIC+ recap - huge improvement

This is probably a well established topic but if anyone has a c+ that has not done a recap it's well worth doing. Before I had the caps replaced the low end was a bit loose on the c+ which was not what I was expecting. I managed to dial it out to tighten the amp up using some rather unorthodox sett...

Re: Life After a Mark IVb

Hi group, I want to follow up and report back on what happened with my Mark IV and also thank everyone who participated in the thread. I did contact the factory and sent my Mark IV chassis in for repair. The damage was caused by leaked capacitors. Although they were not able to repair it, they were...

Re: Mark IV - Worth getting?

The MKIV A was my first Mesa in 1991. I sold it in 1993, and regretted it ever since. I tried later models as late as 2001, but none sounded the same. For many years I thought it was just me. BUT....I recently came across a 92 MKIV A. Purely dumb luck, but this is the sound I remember!! Its got a fe...

1992 MKIV A....re-cap & spare parts

Just acquired one of these.....needs a little work, but overall the amp is in fair shape and intact. Can any original owners tell me how long they had theirs before it needed a cap job? This thing looks original and doesn't appear to have ever had power supply caps replaced. Best I can tell though, ...
