Re: Problems with your Mark V...it's you.

Here is my rant about the rants. I continuously see the “Ice Pick” or “I just can’t get the tone” on and on. I’m going to be stinky here for a bit. The tone you want is probably in there. Dial with your ears not your eyes. Using a specific channel or setting because so and so told you it is what he...

Re: The one tone I can’t seem to get

I’m in love with my Mark V, and I pretty much agree with the ‘It’s You’ thread. However, after a solid year and a half of working with the V, there’s one important tone I’m about to give up on trying to dial in. It’s that vintage low-gain, smooth transition into breakup, clear upper mids, for-lack-...

Different Speakers with Mark V Heads - 25, 35 or 90w amps

G'day For past 2 yrs have been running my Mark V 25 thru a 2x12 closed cab with V30s and also a 1x12 closed cab with a single V30. Sounds great with both - no issues or gripes to report. I'm now considering experimenting with different speakers in my 1x12 cab - especially alnico speakers. Can anyone...

Re: Overdrive Pedals for Mark V 25

I recently purchased a Mark V 25 that I'm quite happy with. I've only played single channel amps the last 15 years using a pedalboard up front to get different tones. I bought this amp to get a pure clean tone at a similar volume to my overdrive sound. With a single channel amp the difficulty is th...

Re: Mesa MarkV / Saturation 'mod'

Hi, That's very interesting. The ice pick highs are the nemesis of all Mark V owners I reckon. Especially in iic+ mode I find. I've tried all sorts of things to eliminate it, different combinations of channel and Master volumes, presence and EQ setting etc. I even tried a bigger coupling cap solder...

Re: Anyone Replace C90 In 5.50 Express+ With A Neo Speaker?

While I've not heard any Mesa with Eminence anything I've no doubt it would be a downgrade. Eminence speakers only suit Fenders imo. You are a very funny guy, you've never heard a Mesa with Eminence but you got no doubt it would be a downgrade, interesting statement  On the other hand I have p...

Re: Anyone Replace C90 In 5.50 Express+ With A Neo Speaker?

I'm currently on the lookout for a more grab n go type of combo and really like the 5.50 + combo. At 54 lbs. the 5.50 is more lug n go for my 63 year old body. The C90 is 13 lbs. A speaker like the Emminence Lil Texas is 3.5 lbs. That brings the weight down to roughly 45 lbs. Anyone try this? No ha...

Re: Express 5:50 Plus concerns

Several months ago my Express Plus 5:50 was stolen. I loved the amp. Sounded great. So I bought a new one to replace it. First thing I noticed that there is a "harshness" to the overall tone that I haven't been able to eliminate. I'm not sure how to describe it other than it seems like a "very shar...

Re: Mk V:25 FX loop tone suck

Hi. I'm running several FX pedals in the loop of my Mk V:25 (E-H Memory Boy and Line 6 DL4 delays, TC Hall of Fame reverb, Boss CE 5 chorus). I think I am getting tone suck which might be caused by clipping in the pedals from the line level send of the amp's FX loop. Is there a solution to this pro...

Re: Mark V combo - Humbuckers vs. Single Coils

So..... I've been in the process of rewiring one of my Strats for a week or two. Other, more important stuff just keeps coming up. The Strat has DiMarzios (approximations of single coils, but no noise at all) - Area 61 in the neck - Area 58 in the middle - Virtual Solo in the bridge I finally finis...

Re: I don't play metal ...

I don't play metal but I do play with driven tones a lot. I like to play just behind full on distortion and right on top of it if the harmonics are right. I really like phasing waves when the harmonics are singing. I play open harmonic shapes a lot as a rhythm player mostly. Anyway, I've liked a 5:...

Re: Voicings

I asked this question in the Express forum more than a week ago but I had no answers up to now. Maybe I will have more chance here. Here it is : I understand that the 9 voicings of the MK V are reproductions or copies of older Mesas. Is this the same with the Express 5:25+ ? Are the 4 voicings repr...

Re: Mesa MarkV / Saturation 'mod'

This is about my MarkV - I see people struggeling to get a heavy saturated musical tone from it the same I did - this will help! I bought my MarkV back in 2010 on a holiday trip to cali and since then, I had to learn how to set it up - before, I played a dual recto 3CH which could never meet the to...
