Re: Quad mods—what’s been on Mike B.’s menu?

I called in too see how much it would be to have CH 2 be a clone of CH1 and unfortunately it was quite a bit. $500 or so just for the work. Labor intensive.

Re: Older Mark V 90w vs New Mark V 90w

When switching channels with the footswitch you will hear a slight "pop" and this is normal. You should only get popping on channel changes if you have one of the channels set to 10 Watts and you change to a channel that is not set to 10 watts and vice versa. All my channel switching is quiet betwe...

Re: Quad mods—what’s been on Mike B.’s menu?

There is something weird about that listing. The bids jumped from 750 to 1666 in one bid alone. There’s just no way the true market value of these is over 1000. I would call this sale an anomaly...unless of course I want to trade mine at GC and I would point some salesperson directly at this listing...

Re: Older Mark V 90w vs New Mark V 90w

I think mine is a 2009. Bought it new around early 2010 I think. Never had a problem with it. Crank it all the time using an attenuator at home. Also been using EL34’s for most of those years which some say are risky unless on Tweed power. But no issue here. Haven’t had an issue with any tubes accep...

Re: Quad mods—what’s been on Mike B.’s menu?

You can’t pay attention to eBay listings as a measure on market value. Only what they actually sold for. I got my quad less than a year ago off the GC used site for well under $1000. I wouldn’t mind getting the MKIII channel modded to mirror the 1st channel. That way I could set one for optimal dirt...

Re: Running full power mode with EL-34's

I've been using the same set of Mesa branded EL34's for almost 10 years. I use an attenuator as well so the master is always at 11 O'clock at the least. Now I'm not gigging, so I probably play once a week on average for 30 minutes to an hour.

Re: Problems with your Mark V...it's you.

What I like about the V, having had one for 10 years now, is it can be whatever amp you want it to be. It also makes a killer power amp for my Quad pre. yea no kidding, love the V and only recently slaved it's power section to my IIC+... wow now that really expanded the tonal options. However, I do...

Re: orange vintage high gain

On my T-verb I much prefer Orange Vintage. I have a naga viper treble booster that sounds pretty awesome through it if I want more edge and slice but still want balls.

Re: Tremoverb + Attenuator?

If you’re going to use an attenuator I recommend putting all the tubes back in and then run 8 to 8 to 8. My T-Verb sounds great with an attenuator. Experiment too with getting the channel Masters quite high. It gets pretty beefy. But that will create high send levels for the loop. Getting the channe...

Re: Mesa Tremoverb Don't Cut Through Mix

EQ in the loop will solve all your problems. Just set the loop to 100% mix making it close to being a serial loop. It doesn’t take much of a bump in the mids on the EQ to totally change the character of the amp. I use a MXR 10 band but almost any one will get it done.

Re: New Quad Owner *with vid*

I had a pre in the past as well and CH1 on the quad is as good and from memory a little better than the pre I had. But in kind of agreeing with you, if you really just want the heavy the pre will get it done. I'm interested in what other tones I'll find in ch2 though as I haven't had it long. I love...

Re: New Quad Owner *with vid*

Yeah, I dig it. gotta admit I haven't spent much time on CH 2 as CH 1 is so good. Even though CH2 has a little more gain it sounds smaller than CH 1. Mind you, I have no idea if somebody in the past tried mod's etc.

New Quad Owner *with vid*

Had a studio pre about 5 years ago and kind of wanted one again but wanted to try a quad. Well here it is. Ch 1 sounds a fair bit "bigger" than Ch 2. Clean or dirty. Just has more girth. No idea if this thing has been modded or not. I had it open when I first got it to make sure the tubes shipped OK...

Re: Is this true? Quad pre won't work without FU-2?

Do you really need the foot switch to get sound? That's what this fellow says! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mesa-Boogie-Quad-Preamp-MISSING-FOOTSWITCH-/131559740234?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1ea192534a To actually answer your question...yes. With no other devices like shorted plugs, midi switchers ...
