Re: Finally happy with my V

Interesting, as the SPAX7 is exactly the same tube as our 12AX7 - it simply tests for slightly lower background noise and has the wrap to help prevent microphonics. I don't know exactly how to describe the difference, but it was noticeable. I can only call it tightness and clarity, and less fuzzy d...

Re: Finally happy with my V

If that was cured by the speaker it wasn't the same problem others were experiencing. It was a thing on the varieties of speakers in the combined collection of the various posters in the thread. many types of 1x12, 2x12, 4x12 and different combinations of all/any. I had the same problem, until I tu...

Re: Finally happy with my V

hated the sound at high volume. It sounded thin, harsh and honky. I fought that problem for a year, the "ice pick" sound that many have noted, before I realized what the problem is. It's the C90 speaker. I have the head and a 1x12 cabinet, and had the chance to plug into a 2x12 with V30s. Problem s...

Re: OFFICIAL MARK V TONE SETTINGS THREAD

I know the amp has been around for a while, but I got mine (90W) about five months ago, and I'm still learning it. I think I've figured out some key elements that others might want to know about: - Sit as much as possible with the speaker pointed directly at you when you adjust the settings. You hav...

Re: Mark V with Mesa Open back Widebody?

Should have said I was talking about the Mark V head as opposed to the combo. Mesa sells two 1x12 cabinets with C90s, one open and one closed.

Re: Mark v no sound help!

Update. I just got a replacement amp overnight from Sweetwater (thumbs up to them for great customer service), and the problem is still there. Meaning it is the cabinet...a Mesa 90W widebody cabinet with one C90. I'd never turned the volume up past 12 o'clock, so I didn't think it was possible I'd b...

Re: Mark v no sound help!

I just got a brand new Mark V. I've had it less than a week. I'm having a similar problem, except there was no storm here. What I discovered is that if I flip the switch to 10W, then back up to 45W, it sometimes comes on for a little while. It works in 90, 45 and 10 for a little while, then the soun...

Re: Problems with your Mark V...it's you.

I just got a Mark V, after having my Roadster go bad. I can see where people's issues come from. I don't agree that it has anything to do with the guitar or the technique. It's a complicated and unusual amp. It has the option of two overlapping EQs on every channel, the EQ controls have different ra...

Re: Mark V with Mesa Open back Widebody?

Thanks for the answers. I tried out both options and decided to go for the closed back. With a high gain amp, I think you do need the closed back, or the heavier sounds kind of fall apart.

Mark V with Mesa Open back Widebody?

Was wondering if anyone had tried this option vs. the closed-back cabinet. I may be getting a new Mark V soon, and generally like the sound of open back cabinets, but the closed back seems like the standard option for a Mark V. I'm wondering how different the sound would be, what the Mark V sounds l...

Problem with Roadster 2x12 Combo

Hey, I have a 100W 2x12 Roadster Combo, and was wondering if anybody has any ideas about the problem I've been having. When I turn on the power switch, the red power light doesn't come on, there is no sound, and the power tubes don't light up. The channel lights and fan do come on, and the preamp tu...
