Re: Metallica speakers

@silverwulf : OK i understand the story and i agree with you. MOP was made on G12-T75. Nice to be sure now. Cheers. This thread was helpful, and a few of the pics you posted actually helped connect a few dots for me! I never had doubts that MoP was 75s, but the serial timeline itself never sat well...

Re: Metallica speakers

Either way you slice the cheese, MoP used 75's. I'm sure the 65 can get very close. Can't go wrong with either one. Cheers For anyone that doesn't want to read the entire thread and could care less about the geekdom of serial numbers and Marshall/Celestion history... ...this right here summarizes t...

Re: Metallica speakers

A few quick notes... The first picture of the JMP half stack was the setup used on RTL. The second pic with James and the two cabs is from the MoP sessions. Those are the cabs with serial numbers noted in Flemming's notes. All of the cabs you see are Marshall "B" cabs, not "A" cabs. I'm just specula...

Re: Metallica speakers

My understanding is those two cabs (serials in the 11k range) were the only cabs used on MoP. I can't speak to how many cabs Marshall produced in a given year, but my point above was that serials in the mid-9k range dated to mid-'84, and I've seen a cab in the high 10k range dated to '85. If MoP sta...

Re: Metallica speakers

The last one, I was told it was stock from the original owner. He sold the stack, which he bought new, late '83 cab and early '84 2204 head. He'd never opened it up before. I have no reason to believe he was making up the story. They were both in exceptionally nice condition. I'll look to see if I h...

Re: Metallica speakers

^That's not accurate. As I stated, I had a cab from late '83 with '83 date code G12T-75s in it. I recently had one with March '84 date codes as well. Marshall had no consistency in those days. The recent one had a 260W label on it too. Just like my '90s V30 cab still using leftover 300W labels. Mars...

Re: New MK IIC++ owner, need advice!

The C++ definitely has a different vibe than the C+. Try putting your Lead Drive in the 4.5 - 5.5 range to start and then use the Volume 1 on 7.5 for more clarity or up to 9-9.5 for thicker, more saturated sound.

Re: MESA Mark IV getting Mark IIC+ sounds.

Any other advice on this topic beyond my question more than welcome... Usually I prefer the bass heavy / slower attack voice of the IV over the IIC+. Lately I'm trying to get my IV Lead channel close to a IIC+ sound. Switches on the back are set to - TRIODE SIMUL-CLASS HARMONICS Front is set ... PR...

Re: Mesa Triaxis - Metallica "Load" Era Tones

I think you nailed it! I agree with you that those are some of the best tones out there. Very raw yet smooth. What cab and guitar/pickups did you use? Do you think you can get that tone out of a regular Mark amp? Did you doubt track? Thanks! I think they're definitely underrated albums and tones. T...

What sort of distance did you have for your mics?
Thanks! They were about an inch off the grill. 57 on the corner of the cone, 421 directly beside it. Here's a pic:

Mesa Triaxis - Metallica "Load" Era Tones

Finally dragged out the old PC and attempted a proper clip with the Triaxis about 15 years after getting my first one... I love '90s Metallica tones and production (to the dismay of many I'm sure). Here's a quick clip I did with the Triaxis and Strategy 400 using a "King Nothing" backing track...

Re: Tranny ID on an early Triple Recto?

I've owned so many, there's plenty of my old amps making their rounds...

Which amp do you have? It could have either the 561136 or 561140 in it. They're pretty much sonically interchangeable.

Re: Couple Rev G questions

Rev Gs were the bulk of the 2 channel models made. Rev C to Rev F models were made from '92 to '93 or so, then it was all Rev G until late 2000 when the 3 channel models were released. That Reverb amp is hard to tell from the pics, but it doesn't look entirely natural (I'd assume painted). But again...

Re: 1994 Dual Rectifier Rev G Original Tubes

Thanks. I was talking to Mike B. yesterday about modding another Mark lll and asked him about the Dual Rec. I told him it had Mesa 7025 labeled 12ax7’s which I could tell are the Chinese military tubes, my favorite 12ax7. He said those were the stock tubes back then in the Dual Rec, Mark lll and Ma...

Mesa STR 420 6L6s were stock back then.
