Re: Hello?

From all the info I can gather the Lonestar actually IS heavier than a Twin (non JBL). From what I find online, the BF and SF Twins were 69 lbs, the Reissues are 64 lbs. Mesa lists the weights of the LS 1x12 as 72 lbs and the 2x12 as 79 lbs. What I find even more cumbersome with my LSC 1x12 is the ...

Re: Hello?

I must say, this is a very quiet corner of the Boogie Board. Maybe we have learned all there is to know about the Lonestar and, due to the models’ sheer reliability no-one has any problems to report? :?:  The whole board is kind of a ghost town. I can't believe how little chatter there has...

Re: The search for tone may be over.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I'm curious if anyone else has tried the California or blue dog in their LSC. I'm going to convert my 2x12 into a head and a vertical open back cab and am having a tough time choosing a speaker. I'm worried the California is going to be a little bright for me... As...

Re: Questions for People with Both LSC and LSS Experience

Well, I couldn't help myself and traded for a LSS head last week. Because why not? Gotta say, it's one lovely amp. And like pretty much every Mesa amp I've ever played, it's one you fall in love with over a period of time, with a lot of exploration and attention to nuance. One of the guys watching m...

Re: Greenbacks?

I have never heard a greenback-style speaker nor a creamback, so I sadly have to rely on YT videos, which I know I can't trust. While the ultimate choice should be made by you and your ears alone, there are tons of great A/B videos on YouTube that can help you get a good idea of the sound you're go...

Re: Jam last night, another win for the TC

This kinda hammers home that with anything from breakup to ridiculously saturated gain, you can dial in some truly great sounds with this amp. Have been having similar positive experiences. Sounds like you had a fun weekend!

Re: Greenbacks?

Remembering that taste is subjective: There are some older amps that, to me, only sound “right” with greenbacks... but doing a compare/contrast a few weeks ago with my TC-100, I found Greenbacks (g12m) thinner and a touch fizzy vs. Cannibas Rex and a Creamback mix of m65s and h75s. The cabinets and ...

Re: Lone Star Reeder Mod #1: Channel 2 Pot-Swap

As djw put it: I suppose the point of this mod and the discussion is to get the amp's OD to a happy place without adding pedals or other outboard gear. So really, for everybody who has done this mod, it's essentially no different from using an EQ pedal aside from the convenience of dialing in a true...

Re: Questions for People with Both LSC and LSS Experience

Not sure how a LSC reacts to half power mode. It loses a little thump, a little bass, a little auth-or-i-tah, and is perhaps a smidge tighter, but not a huge difference overall. On a "normal" amp, and in rehearsal/performance settings, I'd probably use the 50 watt mode on the dirt channel and 100 o...

Re: Questions for People with Both LSC and LSS Experience

To date, I've liked two Mesa combos... the 1x12 Electra Dyne and the Rectoverb:25. [...] The Rectoverb:25 I dig specifically because it sounds like a small, boxy combo. The way I use it is kind of like a crazy high gain Deluxe Reverb. The clean channel is run well into overdrive and the dirty chann...

Re: Fender guy here, went with a LSC to pair with my DRRI

My neighbors want to kill me. This 2x12 has bass! I’m using the manual and factory recommended settings (channel 1) and am loving this amp! I’d like to sharpen up the tone a bit but the more rounded sounds are nice compared to my Fender. Glad you are loving it! For "tone sharpening," here are a few...

Re: Looking at Mark V:35 or TC-50 - advice welcome

Wow, fun day lol Agree with you on the Bogner layout. In every setting, it sounds "good, not great," which, IMO doesn't fly at that price point. Also, must have forgotten it only had volume/tone knobs for the clean channel - nothing against vintage, but come on, it's 2018... That's great you got to ...

Re: Looking at Mark V:35 or TC-50 - advice welcome

One thought that keeps coming back to me is that larger amps and cabs just sound, well... larger. This may or may not be ideal for you (lots of great sounds have come from tiny combo amps), but IMO, it is worth keeping in mind when chasing your ideal tone. I bring this up because a common theme I he...

Re: Questions for People with Both LSC and LSS Experience

Looking back, I think half the problem people had with the LSS was that they were buying the 23" 1x12 combo version, then fighting the natural response of the cab. If you read old threads a lot of people fought with the boxiness/bass response and tried modifying the amp and/or swapping speakers to ...
