I had a similar problem with my mark V at one point. took it to an amp tech and it was a 5 dollar fix. Can't remember exactly what was wrong with it but I guarantee your local tech can fix it.

Re: Help me choose a mark V!

I think that there are a few things going on. Newer models definitely sound better. There's no doubt that older models have a harshness that is almost impossible to get rid of or eq out. The amp begs to be tweaked to the point were it could be too overwhelming for some. My 5150 gets turned on and o...

Re: Sadness.

I had a few issues and the ice pick was one of them. Much of that has been ironed out. Overall tone was also a factor but that too seemed to get worked out (with a pair of small wire cutters). I may explore a few more things to see if there is room for improvement (I blame this all on my other amps...

Re: Sadness.

Now there is the "what if's ?" that may come up..... you have three amps at your disposal. Why not run though each one, all channels and different settings and let that help you decide if it is a move you are willing to make. I play more than one style of music so that may be reason why the V is st...

Re: Sadness.

So here is something weird that happened this weekend. I was never able to figure out why I felt the V was lacking. So I went back to tweaking the amp but this time in the most minuscule way possible, I wound up literally breathing on the presence knob and bass knob, I doubt they even moved a millim...

Re: TC-100.......I knew I should have waited!!

Interesting, though sticking with plans to buy the 50 combo. Do we think there will be any more new amp announcements by end of the year? 2 more amps in the works. Can't say anything about what I know however out of respect for a few people and Randall Smith. While these be announced by end of year...

Sadness.

So I am having a hard time keeping the V. Between my JP-2c and my blue stripe, I feel like there is so much lacking for this amp and it kills me. I want to love the amp so much but I feel like I am falling in love with the MK-III every day at an exponential rate, and the JP is just too good to not k...

Re: Mesa Signature Amp for James Hetfield. theory analysis

Hetfield doesn’t even use an amp anymore so why would mesa put one out with his name on it? He doesnt use an amp LIVE to make things more consistent and always get the same sound, but he always uses amps in the studio, and of course to model his sound. Plus if they did do the JH-2C route, there wou...
