Re: Express Plus - Mesa Boogie's Sleeper Amp?

Okay guys, lets keep the thread going and get along. After reading all the replies to this post, I don't think that anybody has said anything that should cause anybody to shy away to posting. Another cool thing that I have discovered with my Express 5:25+ is that the volume knobs for each channel a...

Re: Express Plus - Mesa Boogie's Sleeper Amp?

Well said! That's why I own 2 of them. A 5x50+ head and a 5x25+ combo. Along with a matching Recto 2x12 vert. I came from a DC3 and a Rectifer Solo 50. Personally, I think the Express is a much more versatile amp, especially since they added the EQ. The Express 5/25+ combo is great for home practic...

Re: Mesa that is close to the Marshall sound?

I think a better way to look at this might be, high-mid voiced, vs low-mid voiced. There are too many different Marshall circuits to compare to, so when you say Marshall, without being specific to a model, I.e., JCM800/900/2000, 1959, 1987, 2204, 2204, 2205, 2210, 2100, 2500, 4100, 4101, etc...., y...

Re: Mesa that is close to the Marshall sound?

Stiletto Definitely. Though I would say the crunch channel is more JCM 800 then Plexi. Though in Reality the JCM 800 2203/2204 is much closer to Plexi then people think. People who associate JCM 800 with hairbands are really hearing either the 2205/2210 800, or a boosted 800. I posted this in anoth...

Re: Express Plus - Mesa Boogie's Sleeper Amp?

I've found the Express to be a really capable amp. It's only "drawbacks" would be the lack of that 3rd channel ala the flagship Mark, or perhaps the lack of the "name recognition" of the recto series. The lack of a third channel is only really relevant in some live situations where you might need t...

Re: 5:25+ Speaker Suggestions

So we as a community are more in favor of a speaker swap. Sounds like cannabis rex, greenback, century, c90, winterland and tone tubby are some winners for a less shrill high end while maintaining the flavor of the amp.

Express 5:25 Plus Combo Speaker Change Walkthrough

Hi folks, I posted previously in search of a "how to" for 5:25 plus combo speaker change. I was kindly directed to a walkthrough but learned it was missing some steps. Maybe you guys knew what to expect but not me, as I am relatively new to Mesa amps. The reason motivating this swap was that I disli...

Re: Best Rectoverb 25 high gain settings

Mesa amps do well for gain when accompanied by a tube screamer in front. It shapes the bass nicely.

Re: Rectoverb 25 combo - Does it sound small?

I think this amp sounds full and warm. I like the punch and shape of the sound the mesa cab provides. The drive channels come alive with a tubescreamer in front (no gain, push the volume), which is how I have run the bigger version. The clean channel does great with pedals and the head also pairs we...

5:25+ combo speaker change - seek how to instructions

Hi Mesa community. Does anyone have a wiki or walkthrough for changing the speaker in the 5:25+ combo? I have a greenback on the way, as the V30 is too piercing in this amp. Pardon me if this info exists here someplace, I must have failed to locate it. Thank you in advance.
