Re: Removing grill on 5:50 plus head to replace tubes

I took the four front screws out and the grill doesnt budge. All other Mesa amps I've owned had the preamp tubes in the back. These are in the front and need to get to them next week when my Doug's set comes in. The grille is set in a kind of adhesive rubbery gasket that eliminates vibration. You d...

Re: NAD Electra Dyne 1x12 widebody

HNAD!!! As I'm considering getting one myself, i was wondering if I could ask you some questions. Can you get good tones at practice volumes, without an attenuator? Also, do you like the Mesa C90 speaker in it? Thanks, Zest It's a beast of an amp, but I just grabbed an Ernie Ball MVP pedal to work ...

NAD Electra Dyne 1x12 widebody

Picked up a virtually brand new ED 27" last week, paid the Canadian equivalent of about 700 USD. What a steal for this beast! It replaces a recently-dumped Express 525 1x10 that gave me fits over the last couple of years as I tried in vain to increase its bass and cut its hiss (failed in both depts)...

Re: TA15 inbound!

Love mine, such a flexible amp in a cool and handy form factor. I use mine with a mini-rec slant 1x12 cab.

Small percolating noises from my TA15

Howdy all

I just went thru a Mesa factory repair for a bad cap on my Express 525, now my TA15 is making light background percolating noises (random sizzle, scratching etc). Not very dramatic but certainly not what I'd call quiet background hum. Now what? Failing preamp tube somewhere?

Cheers

Re: "Normal" hum on Mesa 5:25+ Combo

Mesa called to tell me they replaced a capacitor that was causing my probs, so I guess that's a good thing. Now I just have $300 worth of unnecessary replacement tubes sitting around (2 full sets). I guess that means I should play more...there's a concept!!! Amp gets back next week, curious to try i...

Re: Express 5:25+ struggle with channel two

+1 on the Tone Tubby, I put a 4040 in my 525 1x10, it's a totally different amp (in a good way). Can't wait for the 40 hours or so of breakin period to elapse!

Re: "Normal" hum on Mesa 5:25+ Combo

Mesa kindly called and issued me an RMA for my amp, hopefully it'll fix the buzz once and for all! ok I been watching your troubles - not good. This noise issue appears to be isolated to the 5:25 - the originals were more noisy than the Plus. 5:50s are quiet. What's an RMA ? As an aside I bought a ...

Re: NAD!

So in my search for a cab for my new-to-me TA-15, I almost hit on a couple of interesting deals (Avatar w V30, Traynor 1x12...) but pulled the trigger today on a new Mesa mini-recto slant 1x12. Pretty cool box, undeniably funky vibe. Sounds pretty good too, plus I can always use it as an extension f...

Re: Express 5:25+ struggle with channel two

Like most Boogies they seem to need to be cranked to get the most out of them. Have you played with the various wattage settings? Sometimes a lower output actually generates better tones. I like my Blues channel but I play at low basement volumes and the hiss is so bad I eventually bail and go back ...

Re: "Normal" hum on Mesa 5:25+ Combo

Ley me add my 2 cents here as well. I've got a 5:25+ that hisses a bit too much for me. Well above my other tube amp's hiss. Put a set of Doug's tubes in, and the hiss went down by about 40% or so. OK, good deal. Second gig out both channels start cutting in and out. Not good. Found a mode that wor...

NAD!

Just picked up my 2nd mesa, a TA-15 to go with my Express 5:25. You might ask, "Why a TA when an Express is similar?" Answer: Because of the cool blue LEDs of course! And they're not actually that similar. Seriously though, I've got several big combos, am tired of the 75-lb lug, and so have been kic...
