Re: TC-100 leaked

Mark IV was out 18 years before the V was released. Yes it was. Had one. Also ownership of the IV overlapped the ownership of the Mark V so I had an opportunity to comare the two. If you look hard enough, I wrote it was time for the Mark VI (VI=6) as it is due in 2019 (assumed they do this every 10...

Re: Mesa MarkV / Saturation 'mod'

As for the bass... I would never put the bass on CH3 on 100% - I use to set it to around 9 o'clock. Therefore, the pot swap changed my bass setting from 8:45 to 9:30 - which is fine for me. Schematic values: __T__M__B__C18_Model 190k 10k 250k yes MarkII 190k 10k 250k yes MarkIII 250k 10k 250k no_Ma...

Re: TriAxis: Any Cathode Follower Tube (Position)??

Thanks! Just to be sure. You're talking about the Mark series. My question was about the TriAxis having or not having a cathode follower tube. When you said you looked at the schematic, were you talking about the Mark or the TriAxis? The Triaxis is, as far as the design goes, a member of the Mark s...

Re: Mesa Quad Volume Drops, Push/Pull Knobs Not Working, cra

First thing: Those pots are probably pretty dirty, that explains the crackling and some of the sudden erratic levels. Contact cleaner is a good first bet. And that seemed to handle a couple of those issues. Second, there's components called LDRs inside these amps (Light Dependent Resistors) which ar...

Re: Studio Preamp - Recto Poweramp

Man, I totally forgot about those. I realize they're made for touring musicians, but it would have been nice to be able to run only one side and not have a load connected to both amps (e.g., independant power switches per side). Thanks for the heads up! On many of the Mesa power amps you can run ju...

Re: New to Quad Premp - have a question...

Channel 1, as you've seen in the manual, is modeled after the Mark IIC(+) style two channel amp. With a clean and a lead channel. Channel 2 is modelled after the second and third channels on a Mark III style amp (R1 was clean R2 was more in crunch territory, and R3 was lead with that crunch mode fee...

Re: TriAxis: Any Cathode Follower Tube (Position)??

I will correct you, as you are wrong :P But just a tiny bit. Cathode followers can be used for a variety of functions some of which you mentioned. But they do not have to be, and the term "usually" depends a lot of the amp design in question. Marshall style amplifier circuits (which grew into the So...

Re: Which Mark series if I don't use Mark IV and Extreme?

The Mark IIC+ mode and the Mark IV modes are nearly the same on the Mark V, they just vary on a couple details (Mark IV has PULL DEEP enabled, and a larger capacitor which the GEQ models came with to let more bass through). Many of the older Mark series amps will allow you to toggle between the two ...

Re: Not much love for EDGE Mode usually, but...

I really enjoy for Thrashy high gain tones once you put a boost in front of it. Especially a straight volume boost which adds some of the low end back in. And turning the treble down to account for the voicing of the channel.

Re: Poll: How Old Are You?

Well here I am, the lone <30 member out of 40 results. :P I'll add to the original post that although there are definitely some younger musicians who do own some Mesa stuff, I find in the last decade a lot of the new musicians have moved away from forums in favor of Facebook groups and other things....

Re: Potential impedance mismatch problem

Maybe try it in vintage mode and compare? Modern mode removes the negative feedback between the speakers and the power amp, so the way a mismatch behaves in that mode might differ possibly.

Re: Amp turning off and on again quickly

I understand very much, and as a Software Developer who's built many computers as well I'm familiar with the troubleshooting skills. I just wanted to add the caveat in case you weren't aware, or someone else who reads this thread later. I looked into the warranty for you, and it does appear the 5 ye...

Re: Amp turning off and on again quickly

I think this is the good old diode problem in the low voltage (relay control) circuit. You might need a diode job. Could you please elaborate just a bit? I have very little technical knowledge about the amp. I'm completely willing to read up on the subject, but if you would take a little time to ex...

Re: Mark V 25 Cab Matching

I think the manual might be stating the difference between a single 8 ohm cab, and a single 4 ohm cab: A single 8 Ohm cab on the 8 Ohm out will have one sound. If you switch to a 4 Ohm version on the 4 Ohm out, you might experience a different feel because although it's am impedance match it's still...

Re: Buying Mesa amp from original owner who never registered

Guess I haven't talked to them myself, but the last I looked into (a year ago) if it they don't have a proof of sale to start the 5 years from then they can use the date of manufacture instead. It'll be written on the underside of the amp chassis.
