Re: Fake???

That's an early Aidean Zoom copy made in Japan... Also known as a "Meisa". There are alot of em' out there before Mesa got their lawyers mobilzied. They ironically can sound good with a little love... No, this is NOT an Aidean Zoom copy! This is a really old amp that actually predates what became t...

Re: MARK III BLACK STRIPE SNAP CRACKLE POPPING

Congrats my friend!!! You just successfully narrowed down an intermittent component. Your video helped us do it. That looks to be C511 on our Black Stripe Schematic. It's rotated completely opposite where it should sit. Here is the board layout and schematic so you can position correctly: https://dr...

Re: MARK III BLACK STRIPE SNAP CRACKLE POPPING

When you get a chance can you post a clean pic of the chassis guts. A good overhead of the whole or maybe in three sections R-L... Often one of us will just see something amiss. If you have a good pair of insulated(rubber handle)needle nose pliers you can do the following... With the amp powered up ...

Re: MARK III BLACK STRIPE SNAP CRACKLE POPPING

It occurred after the cap change. Before that it stopped working and I assumed it was the ruptured capacitor. You will need a chopstick and start looking around with it to find the loose component or connection. Since you replaced several caps you should start looking in those areas. You can clearl...

Re: MARK III BLACK STRIPE SNAP CRACKLE POPPING

You have something relatively easy to track down. It's an intermittent connection with a component or connection somewhere. Question, was it making that noise by tapping before you changed the caps, or after?

Re: Rhthym Channel low gain

Hi there, Welcome! ...and there are several peeps here that can help you troubleshoot. In the meantime a board member has completed a seriously thorough breakdown of each Stripe model. Here is the link... https://forum.grailtone.com/viewtopic.php?t=83605 ...follow down the thread to the Red Stripe s...

Missing/Lost/Stolen 79' Mark IIA 15"

Howdy Mesa Boogie peeps... It pains me to announce this amp has gone "missing". It was shipped from NYC to Japan and "disappeared" in transit in the Independence, Kentucky area. So this would be the Greater Cincinnati, Ohio area as well. The cost of the amp is less important than the personal value....

Re: New caps in C+

Thanks for the reply. I kinda understand you. What you mentioned with regards to plate voltage, my amps plate voltages at pin 3 of output tube is around 500v. My coupling caps in there now are rated at 400v. Do I need to put 600v caps there ,or am I way off base here? Thanks, Jim No, the plate volt...

Re: New caps in C+

Wholly unnecessary to replace the .1uf output coupling caps. The PI circuit has a very low plate to cathode swing causing little or no current. All you are left with is the plate voltage at the input of the caps which is a non-issue even after a cap job. The modern polyester film/foil Orange Drops(2...

Re: Putting together a Mark III Guide

Outstanding work and effort my friend. This will really be useful to help keep Mark III's up and running. And more importantly to respect their differences when doing service work. Quite impressed!

Re: Mark III no distortion channel 3

I would just like to chime in again... In my experience the LDR's in the Mark IIC, C+ and Mark III's are very hardy. It's rare that I have had to swap any out EVEN with a total meltdown on the low voltage rail. These are good suggestions you cats are making. The OP has been unclear at best about wha...

Re: Mark III no distortion channel 3

Another thing to look at which is notorious on Mark III's is the under spec'd 680 ohm resistor on the low voltage rail... If that starts to cook out the first symptom will be switching problems...shortly after that it will burn right through the board.

Re: Mark III+ blowing fuses

On the heels of Mesa doing the upgrade, all info provided points to PT core saturation with that elevated AC particularly at 50 cycles...It's beyond my pay grade but it has to do with the magnetic material in the PT and flux lines. Some power transformers are just marginally rated to begin with. It ...

Re: MK 3 reverb tank

Mark IV tank is compatable... Little known or discussed fact about the Mark III...need more verb'? Use the footswitch... Has to be a TRS(stereo cable) with a 2-button footswitch(for models with EQ & Reverb). Reverb/EQ jack is on the underside of chassis(looking from back it is the one closest to the...
