Re: MKV EQ switching issue - please help

I'd bet on the JFET being bad.

But, the reverb comment you make I seem to think that is somewhat normal. The reverb cuts out a bit when switching. I think this is by design and a byproduct to minimize popping and such.

Re: What is your thoughts on Cab Clone?

What would be super helpful if you could do a recording comparison with the built in cab clone and the new cab clone IR+ with with no speaker connected. I’m curious how much the reactive load of the new Clone IR+ changes things.

Re: New boogie

The only time I've blown a tube in the Mark V was also a rectifier tube gone bad. The rectifier tube would also "blue spark" right when turning off standby. At that time I was practicing in an old farm house with really crappy wiring. You could hear the electric fence (outside in the cow field) puls...

Funny enough, this was posted here a few weeks ago... a video which compares exactly what you're inquiring about:

Honestly, I've tried this Mark IV mode with "unusual" EQ setting and I really am digging it.

Mark V:25 1x10 combo

Has anyone had a chance to try this little guy out? Haven't heard much noise about it here.

Re: The channel 3 Pentode Triode modes..

On a related note....10W mode channel 3 is pentode according to a mesa tech. I emailed them a long time ago about the pentode/triode switch not working in 10 W mode and they said it is pentode only. I do not think the manual mentions this.

Re: What is your thoughts on Cab Clone?

Cab Clone is OK in my book. I use it for gigs with a Mark V and also for home recording. When I did some comparisons with CabClone and an SM57 in front of a RectoCab V30 the recordings seemed pretty close to my ear. However, I always run the CabClone with a live speaker. The CabClone is passive so i...

Re: Settings to improve guitar volume control

Extreme is an odd name for that channel, in my opinion. As others have noted here (and I think it is accurate based on my ears) Extreme has less gain than Mark IV mode. Extreme implies like extreme crazy gain. At any rate, it does have different sonics but to my ear they don't sound "extreme" to me....

Re: Mark V question for newbie

I can only stress "90 Watts" is really not the main advantage of the full Mark V. In other words, there are more significant differences between the three Marks than just max power. The full Mark V has three channels, and all the flexibility within those channels and modes, which is not available in...

Re: Mark V question for newbie

If you want Santana tone, I'd suggest the "Mark I" mode on the Mark V. I don't think the smaller Mark V's (25 and 35) do not have the Mark I mode. Mark I is very thick and juicy and just opens up wonderfully at gig/practice volumes. You may be able to get that specific Santana tone with a pedal and ...

Re: Settings to improve guitar volume control

I think Extreme mode rolls off nice with lower guitar volume. Maybe because it has some added bass? I find the ‘pleasingness’ of the volume roll off is also very dependent on pick-ups.

Re: OFFICIAL MARK V TONE SETTINGS THREAD

Hi, This was another thread here and I'll admit that I'm digging these settings for now. A bit non-standard but as always, dial in with your ears. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VO-1jVVCLMQ No idea how accurate this is for obtaining IIc+ tone, but it is a great crunchy big tone for sure. All settin...

Re: TC-50 fixed and sounding just as good as new

With the TC-50 I've found gain can be set at 3:00 without squealing, but not sure i've played this setting at high volumes. General things to do are to stand further away from the amp, point speaker away from guitar etc. but, you probably knew that. It is so annoying when the strings are muted and t...
