Re: Mark V Foot switch circuit board questions

I’m doing the same with my Express 5:25+ pedal. You can easily take apart the MV pedal and trace out the circuit. Make sure the switch type - momentary or latched, DPDT or other. You can also contact a Mesa tech support. I am considering a Mesa Channel/Solo Footswitch. Will have to drill a hole for ...

Yes, that's an Eminence speaker. A lot of people look to change them but, it's actually a nice sounding speaker. Full, warm, smooth. It's still a bit heavy, though.
Well, most anything original Boogie is heavy! You can count on them to only install great sounding parts. Good luck with the sale

Re: 1979 Mesa Boogie Mark IIA

Nice. I have a plain no EQ 60W, great amp. Mine came with the same speaker (got the amp used around 1981) but I bought an MS 12 not long afterwards. Is the speaker Eminence per the code? I was never sure as early catalogs were not clear. Lots of people were upgrading to Altec and JBL, Gauss was some...

Re: Mesa Express 5:25 with 1x12 Thiele EVM-12L -questions

Is the amp the “+” version? The graphic EQ can make a difference tweaking in a speaker. Also a question of a 10” or 12” in a combo. I have a + version combo and have swapped speakers a bit. Easy to tweak for a different speaker. The bass tone control is sensitive. Use your ears and not the knob posi...

Re: Which tweaks have you made to you Express combo amp rig?

I have changed speaker several times, now digging a Tone Tubby 40/40. The EQ and tone controls can make a huge difference and must be tweaked when changing speakers and even with different guitars. I’m not much on pedals but would think a boost would be a good one to have. I like to run the Burn cha...

Re: Preamp tube help

I would get Mesa tubes. V2 is first stage, you can try the SP12AX7 for perhaps lower noise and a little cleaner.

Others on the forum may have experimented rolling pre-amp tubes and can comment. Doug’s certainly gets good reviews. Good thing about tubes is they are easy to change.

Re: Getting a great overdrive sound with Express 5:25+ combo

Burn channel on 9 is nice. There is so much gain that a lower setting still has plenty of dirt. I also find that turning down mid and bass can reduce thickness. Couple with Contour or GEC.

Re: Getting a great overdrive sound with Express 5:25+ combo

Try a different speaker. A cab is the easiest way. The Blues channel has a wide range from clean to slightly clipped. Or a pedal - I am not so familiar with pedals.

The sockets are different and bias would be different, for starters. A lot of modification. Try an Express 5:50

Re: Amp Recommendation: Fender Convert - Need help choosing a Mesa - 5:50 Express Plus, LSC, LSS, or something else? Hel

Go try those amps. Sounds like you want at least 50 watts, is that for clean headroom or stage level?. The Lone Star is supposed to be a great clean amp, but so is the Express. If you can go less watts, the Mark V 25 combo was just announced. I play an Express 5:25 + and the clean channel is great. ...

Re: Who is gigging their Express 5:25+ ?

Played this Saturday, very small room. The Tone Tubby Green is settling in nicely. The power of the 5:25+ is well matched to the speaker, but you still need to drive it a bit to make it sing. I have been using solo more and more to get the leads to pop.

Re: Need help IDing this amp.

Agree that sending it to MESA for refurb is a good idea. The plate resistors have been replaced, which may indicate past problem with shorted tubes or some of the mods. Not a big deal, that can happen. The added small PCBA could be something with the effects loop or channel switching? Solder joints ...

Re: Who is gigging their Express 5:25+ ?

I don’t use pedals at all, mostly stay with Clean/Burn configuration. Occasionally use rack time effects. In a few situations I think the 25W/ EL84 confit reaches the limit, especially on Clean. Did not try a 50W Model but expect more clean headroom. I took the send into my MKIIA and the character o...
