For what it's worth this is a clip of me using a MK3, it's not a fancy recording by any means I think it's from someone's cell but the audio's decent.

FS - Mesa Boogie .50 Caliber+ plus combo

It's in good condition, but has the usual signs of age. I got it about 5 years ago and it was already modded. The amp is a 117v but it has a 240v transformer built in to it. On the back panel there is an extra control for switching between triode and pentode. There's also an extra gain control on th...

Re: Is this true? Quad pre won't work without FU-2?

mine was stuck on no channel at all until i figured i could short it (used one of those planet waves cables with a kill switch in it). i ended up building a footswitch, similar to the ones you can buy on ebay, but it wasn't ideal. now i have a midi switcher (nobels ms-8) which works perfectly.

Re: New owner of a Quad Preamp. Options for channel switchin

I use a Nobels MS-8 switcher (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NOS-JSH-NOBEL-MS-8-Programmable-Midi-Switch-Controller-Designed-for-Fender-/141657135215?) with a Behringer FCB1010 foot controller, which also controls my rack FX. the Quad doesn't receive MIDI. the FU-2 (4-pin) or FU-2A (6-pin) are ridiculous...

Re: 50 caliber - DC3 - or ?

as i understand it, the 50 caliber has EL84s while the 50 caliber+ (which i have) has 6L6s. the graphic eq may only be on the + but don't hold me to that. I've never tried an acoustic through it - I will do so tonight and let you know the results. the lead channel is very aggressive and for the tone...

Re: Studio Preamp, a real "Mark"?

it will be an only 1 channel choice as it's impossible to have a crystal clean and a high gain monster lead at the same time. It was comments like this one that led me to buy the Quad preamp instead of the Studio preamp. Now I wish I had just bought the studio preamp instead and here is why: First,...

Re: Quad reverb and where it is in the chain

interesting. thanks for the replies. i do like the reverb but it did sound a bit funny before some modulating effects. not bad exactly, just a bit weird.

Quad reverb and where it is in the chain

Can anyone tell me where the reverb sits in the signal chain? ie. is it before or after the FX loop? i assume it's after...

Re: 50CAL+ (MODDED) OR DC5?

Pepper keenan used .50 caliber+ (unmodified) on all the COC records from Deliverance to In the arms of god. However, they are very much a two guitar band and Woody used Dual Recs on everything. pepper on NOLA is either through his .50cal or JCM800s (or a mix). later Down stuff is either plugins (all...

Re: advice on using the Quad in stereo

i think i've established that the Lexicon is just not suitable for what I'm trying to do. it starts clipping at very low output levels (from both the Quad outputs and the FX loop send) and even when it's in a happy place (level wise) the volume changes too much when you bypass it. the sounds of the ...

Re: NAD 50 Caliber + and Cab -w/pics!

I always had a problem with this too because I could never get the amount of distortion that I wanted and still have a nice warm clean channel. Years later, it occurred to me (I'm slow like that sometimes) that I could simply switch in another volume pot when the lead channel was activated and reme...

Re: advice on using the Quad in stereo

had some duff cables. that planet waves patch cable kit is pretty useless. lava cables worked fine but it's way more expensive. i'm starting to think the multi-fx is a bad idea all round. it just seems to unnecessarily complicate things. ping-pong delay would be great, and stereo chorus etc. but you...
