Re: Mark V:25 + Attenuator

Yeow, that's some serious coin! What advantages do those units have over a much less expensive Weber unit? https://www.tedweber.com/gadgets/attenuators

Re: Maverick Restoration Progress: DONE

Nice job. It's definitely a unique specimen with the black tolex and the Mesa/Boogie badge (as opposed to the blond tolex and the Mesa Engineering badge). I opted for an amber jewel on mine to make it even blonder :)

Re: Maverick 2x12 Pictures with Questions

Interesting. I saw an early Maverick prototype in black, but I thought all of the production models were blonde (like mine). Is that the original cabinet?

Re: New Maverick 2x12 Owner Here

Stick with Mesa tubes; I've tried others and they always end up sounding harsh/ice-pickey. Replace one of the Vintage 30s with a G12H30, particularly if you can find one used, in good condition A good overdrive pedal (e.g. Flux Drive) in front of the clean channel sounds great. A good overdrive in ...

Re: 94 dual rectifier - dog chewed my power cable off

I bought a second-hand Fender Super Champ a while back and the previous owner replaced the plug with a repair part. It worked just fine; the only downside is that the repair plugs are over-sized and a little bulky. I've used them on other projects as well: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hubbell-15-Amp-125...

Re: Down the stereo rabbit hole

Back in the '90s, I had a Roland GP-16 running stereo into a Fender Super Champ and a Roland Jazz Chorus 77. The digital delay on the GP-16 had separate settings for left-center-right, and it sounded great when they were staggered. I still have the GP-16, but I can't remember the last time I used it...

Re: What speaker for RoV 25

I don't have separate cabinets but I paired a Celestion G12H30 with one of the original V30s in my Maverick, and it sounds much better now; they compliment each other well.

The power tubes are less important than the preamp tubes as far as overdrive is concerned. Have you checked the preamp tubes? Are they all 12AX7?

Re: FluxDrive w/ Strymon Flint problem

It was a circumstantial issue (for lack of a better term). Normally, I have my effects chain all setup before I power up the amp. On the few occasions when I experienced this problem, I was swapping different pedals (a FluxDrive and a Big Muff) into the chain while everything was powered up.

Re: Throttle box eq - My (initial) quick review

Great info; thanks for posting. What are you playing it through?

As for the FluxDrive: great pedal. I have the non-EQ version. Love it. Sounds great through my Blue Angel.

FluxDrive w/ Strymon Flint problem

Hi, I have been using a FluxDrive in front of my Blue Angel for a while now and it has always sounded great. I picked up a Strymon Flint and put that in front of the Blue Angel and it sounds fantasic too. I finally got around to using the FluxDrive and the Strymon together, in front of the amp, and ...

Re: Blue Angel back up & running

Glad to hear you're up and running. I have not tried a solid state rectifier, but I put a 12AY7 in v2 and it sounds great. I was hoping that the same trick would work for my Maverick, but it sounded horrible. Tried an AT7 instead and it sounded better than the AY7 but not great... guess I need to lo...

switchdoctorswitches did an outstanding job with the Fender Super Champ (Rivera era) footswitch. I would check them out if you can't find anything on reverb.com or craigslist

Re: some strymon love...

Bought a Flint for my Blue Angel and my Maverick, and it sounds incredible. As good as the Blue Angel's reverb is, the Flint blows it away. I have never been happier with a pedal purchase.

A Flux-Five might be a great option.
