Re: TC50 vs Mark V 35

The JP-2C is like '80s Metallica, early Dream Theater and Santana. The V35 can do that, plus the Black Album and Lamb Of God. That extra 5-band EQ is pretty sick, though.

Re: Pre-Amp / Power amp Tube Set for Dual Rectifier

The EHX 12AX7 has a spiral filament in it which is prone to failure when used in positions with high voltage on the cathode. Those are V3 and V4 on any Rectifier schematic I've ever seen. I also like the EHX and Tung Sol tubes. I'm also really digging the high gain JJ ECC83s (which is also rebranded...

Re: Tight High Gain Recto Mods

One mod I'd like to do is disable NFB for CH1. That would eliminate all volume balancing issues. Plus I vastly prefer no NFB as a whole, for dirty and clean sounds. But I'm not savvy enough to be messing with relays and such. One day... I'm pretty certain that Channel 1 has no NFB. That's...

Re: Single Rectifier Problem

Does it happen all the time now? Have you tried changing any tubes? Does it make a difference if you plug in the foot switch while the amp is off and then turn it back on. If it doesn't squeal all the time, you can try replacing the loop's tube. I believe that is #4 from the left when you look into ...

Re: Please help with components brand

Those are carbon comp 1% resistors. I think they're 2 Watt. They're bigger than any 1W I've seen.

The cap looks like a Mullard mustard cap.

Re: Tight High Gain Recto Mods

I updated the page regarding the voicing circuit, gain, and load resistor. Thanks for sharing. Your site is one of the inspirations for me learning about tube amps. Thanks, I appreciate that. FYI, I found that I made a couple of mistakes with the math for the "Design Concepts' articles. T...

Re: Tight High Gain Recto Mods

I have to commend people who post mods and are capable of modifying their amplifier but I'm not one of them. The best solution I found for a tighter recto is to buy a Siemens E83CC triple mica for V1. I've been using a Boss GE-7 EQ pedal in front of mine. Running it 12V with a crooked frown (max 0d...

Re: NAD Rev G - A couple of questions?

V2 is stages 2 and 3 for the dirt channels. V5 is the phase inverter. Before you order new 6L6s, change those 12ax7s, because the issues with power and gain will be improved.

The bias should be in the neighborhood of -52V.

I use a Voodoo Labs Control Switcher with a Nova System and it works great. It's wired up like you are imagining.

Re: Triple Rectifier Gain

If I put gain below 12 o clock on channel 2 or 3 it's like I lose signal to point it's dead unless I crank volume. Could I have bad power tubes??? Replaced all pre amp tubes. Thanks for any info appreciate it. I would check V2 and V3 if the problem is only on Channel 2 or 3. You might have a dud in...

Older 3Ch Bass Pots

I noticed on the parts list that the bass pot on Channel 3 has the part number for a 250k pot instead of a 1M pot. I'm not well, so I can't take mine apart right now, but could anyone confirm whether the one on your amp is #593148? I did some EQ matching using the Tone Stack Calculator and then trie...

Re: RK2 Slave Out

Yeah, the Slave Out comes from a tap on the output transformer and it's after the power amp section. You can run it into effects and into another amp, but a speaker load needs to be on one of the speaker jacks. A load box would be the way to do it without sound from the amp. Instead of modifying the...

How big of a change was that cap on the Output?
