Re: New Mesa amp "California Tweed (6V6 4:Forty)"

Hi there! I own the Express+ 5:25 as well.. brilliant amp! I am now looking for another amp to get more various of vintage tones. can you tell me what the difference between the Fillmore and the California Tweed? Sorry but I did not demo the Fillmore. I was not in the market for another multi-chann...

Re: New Mesa amp "California Tweed (6V6 4:Forty)"

I am also enjoying the California Tweed combo I purchased a couple of months ago. This is my second Mesa amp - I have owned the Express + 5:25 for about five years now. I love that amp and purchased the California Tweed to enjoy some new and different tones, not to overlap with or replace the Expres...

Re: Express Plus - Mesa Boogie's Sleeper Amp?

Great summary MB! I have owned the 5:25 + for a little over three years now and continue to love the amp. I am just a hobbyist but I believe it has made me a better guitarist because it offers so many opportunities for tonal exploration, and because it seems to sound better and better as I improve. ...

Re: Santana tone with 525 exp+

Anyone have a setting for a near Santana sound with a 525 exp+ w/ 1 x 12" speaker (Shadow) This is not a combo note : Humbucker les paul thx Hi rjw, There is a fellow on this forum with the username revgsmall who has mentioned that he goes for a Santana tone with a 5:25+ and the PRS Santana guitar....

Re: Dumble/Robben Ford Tones

I've gotten close to my ears with my 5:25+, 9 o clock on the burn channel with the 700 freq boosted slightly. I play Gibson style guitars mostly do that also helped get that sound. I have a Zendrive red but haven't tried it yet, I prefer a AM TS808 with the Mesa too. Very versatile amp! Jazzphan - ...

Re: LSS vs. 5:25+

Hi theroan, You probably know this already, but clean and crunch are both on channel 1 of the express amps. So if these are your desired voicings, you will have to do manual switching instead of foot switching. One way to make this faster/easier is to have one of the eq options (sliders vs. contour ...

Re: 5:25 or 5:50 dilemma

I think you nailed it with that quote. I'm a bit overwhelmed with the options on the Express , especially in contrast to my simple Fender Amp. I want to use this amp to gig with in less than a month & would like to know all the ways to get from sparkly clean to "pushed" clean to Bluesy overdriven c...

Re: 5:25+ Speaker Suggestions

I added a speaker instead of replacing one. Recently purchased a Mesa 1x12 widebody closed back cabinet with a C90 speaker and stack my 5:25+ on top of it. It's a little too new to form a lot of judgments, but the tandem together does sound big and rich, and the V30 and C90 seem to complement each o...

Re: External cab configuration for 5:25 Express combo

You should take a look at the owner's manual, which I think is available online. It contains a long list of safe wiring schemes. For example, it looks like a safe mismatch would be to plug the 8 ohm combo speaker into the 4 ohm jack and the 16 ohm extension cabinet speaker into the 8 ohm jack. You c...

Re: Help me Pair an Express 5:25+ and Mesa Cabinet

I really like the Mesa widebody closed back/front ported cab. If you're set on an Express head, get the 5:50+ since you already have the 5:25. Hi Jeff, I've been thinking about pairing the 1x12 Thiele with my Express 5:25+ combo. People I've spoken to say say that it adds more low-end punch, but do...

Re: Just got my 1x12 5:25 Express Combo....

Download the manual from Boogie's website, if you haven't already done so. There are a bunch of sample settings in there that give you a good feel of what this amp is capable of. Hi Denny, Beyond the sample settings in the manual, Mesa has also put a bunch of video samples on their web site and eac...

Re: Express Plus 5:25 vs Express Plus 5:50

The decision was all about the sound at 5 & 25 watt comparisons. 50 watts was awesome, but I figured apples to apples at the same power levels. If you do the 25 watt comparison, just keep in mind that the 25 watt setting on the 5:25+ runs in class A/B, while the 25 watt setting on the 5:50+ runs in...

Re: Extention cab for my 5:25 combo

I have a compact 1/12 to use with my 5:25 + and the C-90 speaker really compliments the V30. You may be surprised by the increased bass response and the whole sound seems to bloom. They are the same size so they look well together as well. TW Hi twally - like blackie59, I would be interested in hea...

Re: Express Plus worth selling a DR Z Maz???

Hi ifailedshapes, If you have a minute I'd be interested in hearing a little more about how you think the 5:25 compares tonally to the LSS, including channel 2 the LSS. I bought a 5:25 Plus about 9 months ago and preferred it over the LSS for a bunch of reasons (more versatile, less $, smaller footp...
