Re: Tung Sol 6V6 for TC50

I used Mesa's 6V6 tubes mainly because using another brand voids the 5 year warranty. Preamp tubes are a different story, but the power tubes have to be Mesa brand if you want to keep your warranty in tact.

Re: Speakers???

In my vertical 2x12, I have a WGS Invader 50 on top and the standard Mesa V30 on the bottom. I love the tome from that cab!

Re: Tight or Normal, Rhythm or Lead

I still wish the tight mode switch could be controlled via midi. To be able to switch back and forth with a simple tap of the foot would be awesome.

Re: Electra Dyne Volume Taper

I've used one of those volume boxes in the loop of another amp and it seemed to work ok. That was before I actually used the effects loop, lol! I suppose I could put one of those at the end of my effects chain right before the return. I'll have to try that.

Electra Dyne Volume Taper

I read a little bit about the DC series having the same issue as the Electra Dyne: master volume goes from too quiet to too loud way too quickly. I read there is a resistor attached to the master output in that series that can be clipped and it supposedly smooths out the taper. I can't find a schema...

Re: Greenbacks?

After trying my V with both Invaders in place, I think I am going back to the V30 and Invader combination. There was too much "wooliness" for that amp. Previously, when I had the Invader and V30 together, the TC50 sounded great, but I thought it might get better with 2 Invaders. Well, sorta yes and ...

Re: 6V6 tubes

I've chickened out trying the 6V6s, lol! The last thing I want to do is damage my V. But, I will try the amp with my recto vertical 2x12 loaded with WGS Invader 50s. What that did for my TC50 was amazing.

Re: Greenbacks?

I went ahead and put the second WGS Invader 50 in my 2x12 vertical recto cab. Wow! More "wooliness" and lower mid growl on both gain channels. Clean channel still sounds just as sweet as it did before - more of a negligible change. I never thought I would want nor like this arrangement, but, so far,...

Re: Speaker Cab

I have the Road King horizontal 2x12 and the Recto vertical 2x12. Even though they are not the same speakers in each cab, I much prefer the vertical Recto. I like having one speaker aimed closer to my head than my knees. I use this cab with both my TC50 and Mark V. Either will work well, no doubt. I...

FWIW, TubeDepot is offering the JAN Phillips 12AT7WTC for 9.95 each for a few days.

Re: 6V6 tubes

I was on vacation for a little over a week, so I have yet to give the tubes a shot. Being a TC50 owner as well, my first guess would also have been to use the EL34 bias. The thread I dug up with a "master list" of power tubes you can use with the V is fairly old and said to use the 6L6 bias setting ...

I took a chance and ordered a quad of 6V6 tubes. Will post my findings.

6V6 tubes

I found an old thread containing a "master list" of compatible power tubes for the V. In that list, 6V6 tubes were listed as being compatible as long as Variac power was used. I also saw a combination of 6L6 and 6V6 (the V's as the inner pair) that also called for variac power and never using the 10...

Re: Mud in the red channel - stock tubes.

I guessed you probably did, but no one had asked yet. I find I want more low end in mine sometimes, but never had any flub. I'm using a Recto vertical 2x12 cab. Bottom speaker is the Mesa V30 and top speaker is a WGS Invader 50. The WGS actually added some lower mids that I felt were missing...still...

Re: Mud in the red channel - stock tubes.

I don't play much metal these days, at least not so much modern metal. The first obvious question I have is: have you flipped the Tight switch on channel 3? If so, have you tried a graphic EQ in the loop? A few posts down in this section have some sound samples of a TC100 with a graphic in the loop ...
