Re: Matching 4 Tubes - How Important?

That is correct. The manual for the Dyne is really good, too. It will tell you the functions of each preamp tube, which could be useful if you are interested in shaping your tone from the inside as well. They also go into detail about the power section and how the tubes are used in 45 watt mode and ...

Re: Matching 4 Tubes - How Important?

I also have an Electra Dyne and use EL34s. Mached pairs are absolutely fine. Just make sure the inner pair are a matched pair and the outer pair are a matched pair. Tube Depot will also sell you a matched quartet, but it's not necessary. There are a few out there who think matching is pointless. Bac...

Re: 6L6 str 441 make and model?

I had a day alone at my house, so I broke out my V with the Tung Sols and cranked it up. Pretty sure my dogs hate me now. There was definitely an increase to the bottom end. It wasn't flubby at all, just more pronounced and more full. The top end sounded a bit more rounded, but no loss of high end, ...

Re: 6L6 str 441 make and model?

There was another thread here on those tubes (441s), and the general consensus was that they were re-branded Tung-Sol 6L6 STRs. I purchased a quad of Tung-Sols from another seller and put them in my Mark V, since that's what Mesa now says are the stock compliment. I have an old document (can't vouch...

Re: I love this blue channel.

The stock EL34s from Mesa really need to be "broken in." I do this by leaving the amp on for 24 hours with nothing plugged into the front. It has been my experience that it tames any harshness in the top end and makes the tone more smooth overall. YMMV.

Re: How old were you when you started playing guitar?

Got my first guitar at 9 - a log of a Harmony acoustic. But, I didn't start seriously playing until about 14. That was 41 years ago and I am still learning!

Re: Looking for speakers

I have the vertical Recto 2x12. The bottom speaker is the Mesa V30, but in the top, I put in a WGS Invader. That's a beefier Greenback style, and I just love the combination. Should be spot on for classic rock. But the WGS ET90 is another one to consider as well.

Apeman, I love your tone! It was your initial thread on the AT7 "mod" that made me buy my V.
Can you tell the details of the hard mods you've done?

Re: C6A7's in the Dyne

If you're currently running 6L6s, you should definitely hear a difference in the mids the most. Those tubes might tighten up the lower end a bit. I think I tried a set once, but still preferred the Tung Sol EL34Bs. I switch between 2 different 2x12's. One is the Mesa Vertical Recto cab with a V30 on...

Re: C6A7's in the Dyne

If you already have the tubes, there's no harm in trying. Also depends on what speakers you are pairing the Dyne with.

Re: C6A7's in the Dyne

I have used the EH version of those tubes for years and absolutely love them in particular amps. Yes, you can use them with the EL34 bias setting. To me, they are like EL34s on steroids - which is how Tube Depot describes them, too. They are kind of a cross between 6L6s and EL34s, but I never put th...

Re: New 6l6 441 tubes

I cheated and ordered a set of Tung Sols. I played a gig shortly after installation and found the tone just sightly "softer" than with the original 440s. But, I played clean the entire gig, so I have no real reference for channels 2 and 3. I was on Tweed mode the entire night and was pleased by the ...

Re: Tung Sol 6V6 for TC50

I used Mesa's 6V6 tubes mainly because using another brand voids the 5 year warranty. Preamp tubes are a different story, but the power tubes have to be Mesa brand if you want to keep your warranty in tact.

In my vertical 2x12, I have a WGS Invader 50 on top and the standard Mesa V30 on the bottom. I love the tome from that cab!

Re: Tight or Normal, Rhythm or Lead

I still wish the tight mode switch could be controlled via midi. To be able to switch back and forth with a simple tap of the foot would be awesome.
