Re: Running two 8 ohms cabs on my Tc-50

I had felt the TC-50 when pushing the 4 ohms seemed to tax the amp a bit too much. Since I also have the TC-100 I have done the same without that drop in volume. The TC-100 can handle the two 212 cabs without issue just as much as it can drive two 412. If you need that 412 sound, an 8 ohm 412 may be...

Re: Which tubes do you like?

Now that Mesa has two other types of 6L6 tubes, STR441 which is a Tung Sol 6L6 tube and the STR445 which is the JJ 6L6 tube, Mesa's description of that one is like a 6CA7 characteristic and if that is anything like the JJ 6CA7 tube I may be interested in that. EHx 6CA7 is just a bit weird sounding. ...

Re: Which tubes do you like?

I may have experimented with many tubes. I have settled on the stock Mesa STR447 EL34s for both TC-50 and TC-100. Although both types of 6V6 tubes work well with the TC-50 (yes, there are two versions. The first pair I got has 6V6-GTA printed on them as well as "matched to 417", those I believe are ...

Re: NOS 12AX7 tubes for Cathode follower ?

Still have the JAN/GE 12ax7 tubes in V3 and V5. Also have been running this amp more since the changes. JAN/GE 5751 in V1, Mullard reissue 12AX7 in V2 and phase inverter. Stock tube in V4 and stock power tubes. Roadster is un-modified. I could not be happier with the amp. I did try the RFT in V1 and...

follow up on the JAN/GE 12AX7WA preamp tubes I have installed in V3 and V5 of the Roadster. No issues yet. Amp never sounded better.

Re: JP-2C Channel 1 Volume Fluctuation

Wow, never expected to be reading this.... So far I have had no issues after I replaced some of the original tubes that were in the amp. Still have mesa 12AX7 and power tubes. Had a recurring static issue but that was power tube related. As for the OP, if the midi controller is going bonkers, double...

Re: Triple crown 100 vs Roadster!?

The TC-100 does an excellent job, it is a hard amp to beat until you get to a song that requires a Dual or Triple Rec. I still have plenty of love for my Roadster and it has become a main part of my desired rig setup. However, TC-100 is one of the go-to amps for jam sessions when I have company. Sin...

Re: Roadster (Road King) on steroids

For those interested I did make a video of the Roadster with the new complement of preamp tubes. Note that I was using an oversized 412 cab loaded with EVM12L Black Labels with the Roadster. Also near the end of the video I pulled in the Multi-Watt Dual Rectifier that still has all of its original p...

Re: Roadster (Road King) on steroids

Just a quick note regarding the Multi-Watt Dual Rectifier; I was tube rolling this amp as well but wound up with the stock tubes in the preamp. The Mullard re-issue or Gold Lion B759 reissue would sill work in the phase inverter position. However it will create a low frequency hum in V2 since that t...

Roadster (Road King) on steroids

My interest have picked up considerably with the Roadster ever since I got the Mulit-Watt Dual Rectifier. This happens with me when I get amps of the same family or series as I like to find out where the similarities are and where they differ. Mind you this is not to evaluate which amp is better tha...

Re: NOS 12AX7 tubes for Cathode follower ?

I did get the JAN tubes today. Tried them in the cathode follower positions after I tested them on the Orange VT1000. They definitely brighten up the MWDR considerably in V3 and V4, think the FX loop gained some sound levels. I went back to stock tubes with the MMDR for now. However the Roadster ben...

Re: NOS 12AX7 tubes for Cathode follower ?

Thanks Don, thanks for the reply. I am well aware of the Russian tube issue, but It is always good to express that as others who may read these to be well aware of that issue. I can get some 70's JAN/GE 12AX7WC tubes but was wondering if others may have used that or similar with their rectifier amps...

NOS 12AX7 tubes for Cathode follower ?

Is any body running a NOS 12AX7 in the cathode follower positions in their Dual, Triple Rectifier, Road King II or Roadster? I was looking at comments on NOS tubes at tube Depot, JAN/GE 12AX7WC and noted a comment about use in cathode follower of a Marshall. I know the preamp section is very similar...

Re: Orange launches valve/tube tester

I got around to buying one of the VT1000. It seems to work and I have run through my box of preamp tubes and power tubes. It is not difficult to generate high voltage from a DC supply. A switching step up converter can get a high enough voltage to run the test. However I believe the device works mor...

Re: Using a 12at7 in place of 12ax7 in dual rectifier

The last tube roll I did in the Roadster has me stoked. I have had it this way for a week and I am really satisfied with the end results. No, I did not use the 12AT7 but something similar.... JAN/GE 5751. Have this in V1, Mullard RI long plate 12AX7 in V2 and V6 and all stock everywhere else. This a...
