Re: Noise gate to remove hiss on clean channel, upgrade to p

I have an Express 5:25+ head and it hisses as well. Rolling preamp tubes has helped, but it still has not gotten rid of all the hiss. I've been told it's the nature of the beast. My Tweaker 15 head and Orange Rocker are both dead quiet compared to the Express. That said, at band volume it's not noti...

Re: EL84 Redplate Questions

I've owned a Studio 22+, DC2, and Express 5:25+ and only have redplated a tube 1 time when the screen resistor burned out. Mesa EL84 tubes last quite a while. 5 years on my Express 5:25+ so far.

Re: .50 caliber plus help please

Thanks for the help. Sounds like its worth trying a full new set. Do i need to do anything for safety before changing preamp tubes like draining power capacitors ? I would really like to get it to a local tech to service it but can't do now due to disability. cheers No, as long as you're not pullin...

Re: .50 caliber plus help please

Hi, I have had a .50 caliber + combo ( 6L6, GEQ, EV12L ) combo since ~2004 and love it. The user manual says you can get clean up to 5 or so on gain dial ( rhythm channel ) but i've never been able to get a properly clean tone at all even with standard tele single pickups ( vol on max always) and r...

Re: Mesa Boogie Studio Caliber DC-2 - Longevity

I have one I've gigged with numerous times. Great grab-n-go combo. I've rolled tubes and replaced the stock speaker with a WGS ET-65. Very solid amp. I plan on keeping it for a long time!

Re: "Normal" hum on Mesa 5:25+ Combo

A bit late to the party here... FWIW I put a complete Doug's tube cocktail in my Express 5:25 a few months back. Soon after, the amp started buzzing like mad esp on higher gain settings (not just hum but gut-wrenching buzz). I did a complete one-by-one tube swap to try to isolate the problem, no jo...

Re: DC-2 three channel options

I use clean channel for cleans, Mythical OD on clean for crunch, lead channel for leads. Great little combo!

Re: Tone difference between channels

Well, I went back and read pages 3 and 4 of the manual, experimented with the suggested settings for "cleaning up" the blues channel and wham!, it all sunk in. It's not just about reading it, it's about really understanding it. Indeed, as Al pointed out, these amps are so versatile, I don't think I...

Re: Tone difference between channels

Thanks for your reply, Al. The crunch mode in channel 1 is even higher gain than the blues mode, yet it seems to have fuller tone than channel 2 modes. That's why I wasn't sure if it was normal. I'll reread manual. Forgot most of what was in it. At 65, can't remember what I had for breakfast let al...

Re: Tone difference between channels

Hello everyone. New to Forum. First Mesa. Express 5:25 Plus combo. Love it. Question: I notice a tone difference between channel 1 (clean/crunch) and channel 2 (blues/burn). Channel 1 has a fuller, fatter tone. Channel 2 is thinner sounding. Gain, EQ settings, master, set the same for each channel....

Re: Express 5:50 - NAD and footswitch issues

Yes, you can get a single footswitch and plug into the back. I do that with my Express 5:25+ for the channel and the solo. Much smaller footswitch than the stock one.
