Re: DC-5 Reverb faint....

Mesas 12ax7s are fine, from what I've tryed the gainier the tube the more present the reverb will be. I really like it in the clean channel makes it more 3d, not so much in the lead it gets mushy there.

Also you can check the MODs thread there's a couple to improve the reverb.

Re: DC-5 Reverb faint....

At least in revision A the reverb is subtle in the DC5, not one of those super wet ones, anyways when the reverb tube is dying goes from subtle to almost unnoticeable. So try changing V5 with a new tube.

Re: DC5a switching pops..

I get a pop when I go to stand by after playing at reaaaaaally low volumes, when the master is over 3 or 4 no pops at all. First I thought it was a consequence of the choke mod I did, but now I'm not really sure, 'cause before that mod I could never play at super low volumes, it was too muddy.... So...

Re: Can Hammond hang with Mercury Magnetics?

I don't know much about the hammond brand, but as I understand the DC3 comes with no choke, so it will be choke vs resistor and that's a great change for the low end and dynamics in any amp.

Re: DC-5a First trial.

rev B has 'cleaner' cleans, but it does not have more gain in the lead channel, so if you want that you'll have to mod and/or get higher gain preamp tubes.

Re: DC-5a First trial.

joemarshalljmp wants more headroom/less distortion in the clean channel, V4 takes care of stages 2 and 3 for that channel, so changing the tube there would be the best option if he does not want loose gain in the lead channel, all agree? In my first post I mention that a 5751 would be a better optio...

Re: DC-5a First trial.

follower????... it's all plate driven in this amp, no followers here.

5751s are pretty much the same as 12AX7s the main difference being gain. V4 is stages 2 and 3 for the clean channel, so a less gainy tube in there will help you.

Re: DC-5a First trial.

Any overdrive pedal will do, i would not change winged=C= for mesa tubes, I think the preamp is a better place to mess around with tubes

I did not understand that part, what gain resister???????

Re: DC-5a First trial.

a 5751 tube in V4 will give you more headroom in the clean channel withouth touching the lead side, it's better than 12AT7, 12AU7 or anyother in that family 'cause 5751 are very close to 12Ax7 main difference being the gain. If you wanna use the clean as a rythym channel, I think you should get some...

Re: DC-5 Rev B New User Question

If you're sure you don't wanna mod the amp, I think the best way to help with pinch harmonics is lower the gain in the amp and put an OD in front of it, the MXR ZW44 helps with pinch harmonics in any amp .

Re: DC Mods that are easy to do!

if it's resonating you could try upgrading the choke, the guy who modded biggness amp told me he would not remove the resistor unless upgrading the choke to a mercury mc10h , it's like 40 or 50 bucks I think. Anyways since I'm in the other side of the world it's complicated to get it for me, but I w...
