Re: Clean and Crunch on SAME channel ! Can I reconfigure ?

Try this. Use the crunch channel as normal. Then set the burn channel with the master high and the gain low. I can do a passable imitation of my AC30 with that setup. With the gain at 9:00, it's pretty clean. By 10:00 you are quickly leaving "clean" and getting into crunchy. So there is a very narro...

Re: EL84's versus EL34's and 6L6's

I gigged a 5:50 for years and I also have a 5:25 that I still uses as a backup, rehearsal and grab and go amp. You can tell the difference, but honestly, the speaker makes a much bigger difference than the power tubes, especially in a circuit like the Express where most of the gain character is from...

And then there was one.....

I'm down to just my Express 5:25 1x10 now. I put my Express 5:50 1x12 up for sale, and got a nice trade offer for a Vox AC30 plus cash. Pulled the trigger. It's bittersweet. I loved that amp, but I really love this new Vox too, and I still have an Express, plus I have a Marshall 18 Watt that is my m...

Re: Placing Delay Pedal in Effects Loop Kills Your Tone?

I'm using boss dd-20 with my express...ofc I put it in the loop cos otherwise its unusable on the drive channel... It doesn't suck the tone at all so I would suggest changing your delay pedal for something else...another option would be to try and use the buffer with it in your eff. loop, maybe tha...

Re: 5:25 or 5:50 dilemma

5:25 is plenty. I prefer the tone of the 5:50 personally, but the extra power has never been an issue.

I have one of each because the 5:50 is too heavy to lug to rehearsals and so forth. So that is a downside to the bigger amp. If you get the 5:50, I'd get the head/cab configuration.

Thanks! It does. I had to adjust the pickup height, but once I did it sounded awesome.

I'll see if I can get some done. You prefer Strat, Tele or DGT (Les Paul-ish)?

I may try that on my non-Plus Express. You'd have to boost the gain to compensate (because the treble knob adds so much gain), but I'm curious how it would sound. Thanks for that tip!

Re: 5:25+ Speaker Suggestions

I haven't tried it with my 5:25, but I LOVE the Eminence Private Jack in my 5:50. Amazing tone out of that amp/speaker combo. I imagine it would be every bit as awesome on the 5:50+ or 5:25+. I may try to plug it up to the 5:25 just to see how she sounds this week. It's a bit late to pull the trigge...

I actually use the KOT. Standard gain version, yellow side for light boost and red side for heavier crunch. Then I use a Monsterpiece STUD for a solo boost. It sounds fantastic.

Re: New 5:25+ ... mixed feelings

Turn all knobs to 9:00 or so, reverb and contour all the way down, master roughly where you want it to end up. Then dial it in left to right. Gain first, then treble, then mids, then bass. A tip is to dial in treble using an open D chord, mids using an A, and bass using an E. Then reverb to taste, a...

Switched it up a bit - 5:50 (non +)

For the past few years I've been using the blues setting on channel 2 as my clean tone, and the crunch setting on channel 1 for my dirt tone. Last night, on a lark, I started playing with pedals on the blues channel, and I found I can get a much more complex and organic rock tone using OD pedals to ...

My 5:50's clean channel absolutely smokes my Deluxe Reverb for cleans. It's not even close.

Re: How do I dial out the nasal honk?

EQ in the loop can do wonders depending on the tone you're after. I put a Boss GE-7 in mine for a while before I realized the chip in my King of Tone was the problem more than the EQ (reading upstream, I should note that my dirt pedals are now a KOT and a Monsterpiece STUD, and I now use crunch on c...
